Shah Latif was a ‫ ف‬great saint ( ‫ بزرگ‬-‫ )صوفی‬of Sindh. He is famous for his spiritual

thoughts (‫ )روحانی خ ییالت‬and poetry (‫)شاعری‬. He was born in 1102 Hijra in Hala Haveli.
He used to spend ( ‫ )گزارا کرتے تھے‬most of his time ( ‫ )اپنا زیادہ تر وقت‬in prayers (- ‫عبادات‬
‫)اذکار‬, deep thinking (‫یویییچ‬
‫ ) گیی ہرییی س‬and composing verses ( ‫)اشعار کہنا‬. He loved simplicity (
‫ )سادگی‬in poetry and music (‫)موسیقی‬. He invented (‫ )ایجاد کیا‬a simple musical instrument
(‫ )موسیقی کا آلہ‬and called it Tambooro (‫)تمبورو‬. This great saint died in 1165 Hijra. His
devotees (‫ )مرید – عقیدتمند‬collected (‫ )جمع کیا‬his poetry after his death and called it the
Risalo of Shah Abdul Latif (‫)شاہ جو رسالو‬.

Moen-jo-Daro means the “mound of the dead” ( ‫)مردوں کا ٹی ییلہ‬. It is situated ( ‫ )واقع ہونا‬at a
distance (‫ )کے فاصلے پر‬of 27 kilometers from Larkana. Its civilization (‫ )تہذیب‬is 4500
years old. It was discovered ( ‫ )دریافت کیا گیا‬in 1922 by an English (‫ )برطانوی انگریز‬civil
servant (‫ )سرکاری ملزم‬Sir John Marshall. Its ruins (‫ )کھ فیڈرات‬speak (‫بتاررررتے ہی ں‬
) that it was
a well planned city of straight (‫ چوڑے‬- ‫ )سیدھے‬roads and well-built houses (‫بہترین طور‬
‫)سے تعمیر شدہ مکانات‬. It is assumed (‫ )اندازہ لگانا‬that this city was destroyed (‫ )تباہ ہوا‬by an

Sir Johan Marshall


Sir John Marshall was an English ( ‫ )برطانوی انگریز‬civil servant (‫)سرکاری ملزم‬. His was an
archeologist (‫)ماہرآثارقدیمہ‬. His work was to study history (‫ )تاریخ‬and to look after (‫دیکھہ‬
‫ )بھال کرنا‬historical remains (‫)تاریخی آثار‬. He was very keen (‫ )ذ ہین‬and anxious (‫)متجسس‬
person to discover (‫ )دریافت کرنا‬different old civilizations. In 1922 he discovered
Moen-jo-Daro. By the metal objects ( ‫ )دھاتی اشیاء‬found from Moen-jo-Daro, he guessed
(‫ )اندازہ لگانا‬that they belong to a dead civilization (‫ )مردہ تہذیب‬of 4500 years old.
Daffodil
Daffodil is a lovely (‫ )پیارا‬wild (‫ )جنگلی‬flower. It blooms (‫ )کھلنا‬in early spring (‫موسم‬
‫) بہ‬. It is a bell-shaped (‫ )گھنتی کی شکل کا‬flower having a thin (‫ )پتلی‬green

stalk (‫)ہری ڈنڈی‬. It has large pointed petals ( ‫ )مڑے ہوئے پتے‬shading (‫ )رنگ‬from pale
yellow (‫ )ہلکا پیل‬to golden (‫)سنہری‬. It often (‫ )اکثر‬grows (‫ )اگنا‬near or under trees.
Daffodils grow in groups generally (‫)عموما‬.
Allama Iqbal
Allama Iqbal is called the “Poet of the East” ( ‫)شاعر مشرق‬. He was not only a poet (
‫ )شاعر‬but a great philosopher (‫)فلسفی‬, lawyer (‫ )وکیل‬and politician (‫ )سیاستدان‬too. He
was born in 1877 in Sialkot. He received ( ‫ )حاصل کی‬his law degree (‫ )قانون کی ڈگری‬from
England and Ph.D. from Germany. He awoke ( ‫ )بیدار کیا‬the Muslims from deep sleep
(‫ )گہری نیند‬through ( ‫ )کے ذریعے‬his prose (‫ )نثر‬and poetry (‫)شاعری‬. He was the president
(‫ )صدر‬of Punjab branch of Muslim League. He presided over ( ‫ )صدارت کی‬the
Allahabad meeting (‫ )الہ آباد کا جلسہ‬in which he proposed ( ‫ )تجویز کئے‬the clear
dimensions (‫ )حدود‬of Pakistan. He died in 1938 and buried ( ‫ )دقن ہوئے‬in Lahore.
Major Aziz Bhatti
Major Aziz Bhatti was born in 1928 in Hong Kong. He belonged to Gujrat district,
Punjab. He first joined ( ‫ )شمولیت اختیار کی‬Air Force and then Army where he received (
‫ )حاصل کیا‬the Sword of Honour ( ‫ )اعزازی تلوار‬and Norman Medal ( ‫)نارمن میڈل‬. In 1965
war (‫)جنگ‬, he fought (‫ )لڑے‬against the enemy ( ‫ )دشمن کے خلف‬for six days and nights
without rest and laid down his life ( ‫ )اپنی جان قربان کر دی‬in the defence ( ‫ )دفا ع‬of his
homeland (‫)وطن‬. For this act of valour ( ‫)بہادری کا کارنامہ‬, he was awarded (‫)نوازا گیا‬
Nishan-e-Haider.
Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale was the founder ‫ )بانی‬of modern nursing. She was born in Italy
in 1920. At the age of seventeen she decided ( ‫ )فیصلہ کیا‬to become a nurse. He got her
training in Germany. She managed a hospital in London. She played a great role of
managing military hospitals (‫ )فوجی ہسپتال‬during (‫ )رررکےدرروران‬Crimean war fought (‫لڑی‬
‫ )گئی‬between England and Russia. She devoted ( ‫ )وقف کی‬her whole life to educate
people about nursing.

Imam of the Village


Imam is the most important (‫ )اہم‬and influential (‫ )سرگرم‬person in the villages. The
villagers look up (‫ )رجوع کرنا‬to him for their moral (‫ )اخلقی‬and religious (‫)مذہبی‬
guidance (‫)رہنمائی‬. He runs (‫ )چلنا‬a muktab or madrasa ( ‫ مدرسہ‬- ‫ )مکتب‬too where he
teaches the Holy Quran to young children. In the evening he often (‫ )اکثر‬takes
fahme-e-Quran (‫ررمرر قرآن‬
‫ ) ہف‬classes of the elders too. He does not charge (‫ )لینا‬any fee (

conflicts (‫ )تنازعات‬in the shape of Jirga (‫ )جرگہ‬there. Sometimes they enjoy ( ‫لطف اندوز‬
‫ )ہونا‬folk songs (‫ )ثقافتی گیت – علقائی گیت‬sung to the tune (‫ )دھن‬of Ghagar (‫ )گھاگھر‬and
Tamboora (‫)تمبورو‬.

Ms Fatima Jinnah was the youngest sister of Quaid-e-Azam. She was dentist by
profession. Pakistani nation gave her the title of Madr-e-Millat which means the
mother of the nation.
