COMPONENTS
 1 game board
 1 red die  10 white dice
 1 blue die  3 markers (black)
 1 green die

OVERVIEW
In Can You Save This Dude, you are a medical scientist on a mission to save the life of a patient infected
by a deadly virus. The patient could die if body temperature, pulse, or blood pressure (“BP”) spike to
lethal levels, or if the virus spreads throughout the whole body.

You have at your disposal 3 types of drugs for treating the patient:

- Blue drug (represented by blue die) which directly fights the virus (represented by red dice). But
as a side effect, it causes the patient’s body temperature to rise
- Green drug (represented by green die) for managing temperature increase side effect caused by
the blue drug.
- White drugs (represented by white dice), being basic drugs for stabilizing patient. White drugs can
also be combined into a Mega Drug which can instantly cure patient

There are 2 ways to win the game:

a) Eliminate the virus from the body (by pushing red die off the bottom of the virus track using blue
die), OR
b) Successfully create a Mega Drug with six white dice in it and instantly cure the patient.

The patient dies and you lose the game when either:

- Virus spreads and red die reaches the “dead face” emoticon on the virus track OR
- Temperature, BP or pulse marker rises and reaches the “dead face” emoticon and you are unable
to resuscitate the patient

SET-UP
a) Choose level to play, Level 1
Patient Health Chart (L1 – easiest), L2 and L3

b) Roll red and blue dice and

set them on the virus track
on Patient Health Chart as
180/90 350
106oF
mmHg bpm
follows:
o red dice on the virus
160/90 300 track next to L1, L2 or
104oF 2D
mmHg bpm L3 (corresponding to
level chosen)
L3 102oF
150/90 250 3D o blue dice immediately
mmHg bpm
above it
130/80 200 4D
L2 100oF
mmHg bpm c) Place the markers on reset
level 4D (ie 100OF,
L1 o
98 F
120/80 150 130/80 mmHG and 200
mmHg bpm
bpm)

d) Roll one white dice and

place in the middle of Mega
Drug on the grey area
Can (becomes the “anchor”
white dice).

dude? o Level 1: 9 white dice

o Level 2: 8 white dice
o Level 3: 7 white dice

HOW TO PLAY
Each turn has 8 steps to it:

Step 1. Perform Targeted Treatments

- You may perform as many Targeted Treatments (explained later) as you want

Step 2. Roll available dice and green die

- Roll green dice and all available white dice that have not been used for a Targeted Treatment

3
Step 3. Either perform one White Drug Action OR Pass

Performing a White Drug Dose Action

a) After rolling white dice in Step 2, first place each white dice on corresponding white dice
image on the White Drug Actions chart (the options are explained later). This way you can
see which actions are available for you to choose from.
Send unplaced white dice (duplicates) to Storage

b) You may perform only one White Drug Action per turn.

c) To perform an action, lift the white dice, pay the cost, then carry out the effect, and either:

i. Place white dice on Mega Drug (if it meets placement rules explained below) OR
ii. If it does not meet Mega Drug placement rule, it must be immediately trashed (that is,
permanently removed from the current game)

d) Rules for placement of white dice on Mega Drug

- Dice are placed starting at the top space

(with “X”) and proceeding clockwise (ie to
the right)
- A dice may be placed only if it is
numerically sequential to the last dice
placed
 The first dice placed in the “X” space
must be numerically sequential to the
anchor dice. For example: Suppose
the anchor white dice is 5. That
means the first dice placed may only
be a 4 or 6
 If first dice placed is 6, then second
dice can only be a 5. Likewise, if the
first dice placed is a 1, then the next
dice may only be a 2
 If the second dice placed is 5, then the
next dice may only be a 4 or 6
 If the third dice is a 4, then the next
dice may only be a 3 or 5
….and so forth

4
Step 4. Resolve green die vs blue die comparison

- Compare green die reading with blue die reading

- If blue > green, then increase temperature by 1 and send green dice to Storage
- In all other cases, there is no effect ((ie no change to temperature) - just send green dice to Storage
- If temperature marker reaches “dead face” icon as a result, leave it there until you get to Step 6
“Resuscitate Patient”

Step 5. Apply virus (red die) effect

- Apply effects as shown on Actions Guide depending on the red dice reading
- Explanation of effects:

Effect: Roll red die once. Apply effect if resulting dice reading is 2, 3 or 4
Additional Explanations
- If resulting die reading is 2, 3 or 4, then apply effects described below, ie If
reading is 2 then increase pulse by 1, if 3 then increase temperature by 1 and if 4
then increase BP by 1.
- NOTE: The effect of organ weakness must be applied. For example, if the red
dice lands with 3 face-up, and it happens to be on an organ weakness of 3,
then temperature must be increased by 2
Effect: +1 Pulse
Additional Explanation:
- Move pulse marker on Patient Health Chart up by 1
- If red die is next to matching organ weakness, then the effect must be doubled
(ie increase by 2 instead of 1)
Effect: +1 Temperature
Additional Explanation:
- Move temperature marker on Patient Health Chart up by 1
- If red die is next to matching organ weakness, then the effect must be doubled
Effect: +1 Blood Pressure
Additional Explanation:
- Move blood pressure marker on Patient Health Chart up by 1
- If red die is next to matching organ weakness, then the effect must be doubled
Effect: Roll both red and blue dice once. Roll one at a time
Additional Explanation:
- The dice are rolled one at a time in order to avoid losing track of the dice
positions on the virus track
- NOTE: No other effects are applied, even if the dice lands with a reading of 2,
3 or 4.
Effect: Advance red die by 1
Additional Explanation:
- Move red die (and blue die) up by 1 on the virus track. This is the case even if
the blue die also has a reading of 6
- Step 7 must still be played accordingly (ie duel where red die vs blue die
readings are compared)

5
Step 6: Resuscitate Patient (if applicable)

- Upon applying virus effect (or resolving green vs blue dice comparison in Step 4), if marker for
temperature, pulse, or BP ends up on the “dead face” icon, then you must attempt to resuscitate
patient – if you can’t then you have lost and the game ends.
- There are 2 ways to resuscitate patient:

a) Apply Mega Drug (explained under Targeted Treatments) – applying Mega Drug can benefit all
markers (including those that are not already on the “dead face” icon)

b) Trash white dice from Storage and/or Drug Options Chart

 “Trashing” a white die means permanently removing it from the current game
 Trashing white dice benefits only markers that are actually already on the “dead face” icon
 The number of white dice that must be trashed depends on how many markers have
reached the “dead face” emoticon:
 1 marker: 2 white dice
 2 markers: 3 white dice
 Upon trashing, move the affected markers from “dead face” icon to reset level 2D (as
marked on right hand side of Patient Health Chart)

Step 7. Resolve red virus vs blue drug duel

Compare red die reading vs blue die reading.

- If blue > red, then:

a) Advance blue die (and bump red die down) by 1 on the virus track, AND

b) Evolve red die by 1 (for example, if red die reading was 3, then increase to 4)

- if blue = red, then just evolve red dice only.

NOTE: If red dice reading was 6, then turn dice over to 1

- if blue < red, then retreat blue die (and bump red die up) the virus track by 1. In this case, red die must
not be evolved

Step 8. Collect all dice from Storage & White Drug Actions

- Collected dice are “available” for being used in Step 1

6
TARGETED TREATMENTS
- These are performed in Step 1 of your turn

- You may perform some or all of the targeted treatments during a single turn

- There are 4 targeted treatment options. Each one may be performed multiple times (where possible)

Treatment A. Reformulate blue drug

Set blue die to any value

Cost:

Either Method 1: +1 BP and 1 white dice (sent to Storage)

Or Method 2: Trash 1 “available” white die (ie permanently removed from game)
- Turn blue die to any face up
- At all times you have the option of choosing either Method 1 or Method 2 for the cost of the
targeted treatment
- If the BP marker is already on 180/90mmHG (ie you have no more room to increase BP), then
you may not use Method 1
- If you have no white die remaining in hand, then you may not play this targeted treatment

Treatment B. Force virus random mutation

Roll red die

Cost:

Either Method 1: +1 pulse and 1 white die (sent to Storage)

Or Method 2: Trash 1 “available” white die

- Roll red die

- At all times you have the option of choosing either Method 1 or Method 2 for the cost of the
targeted treatment
- If the pulse marker is already on 350bpm (ie you have no more room to increase pulse), then
you may not use method 1
- If you have no white die remaining in hand, then you may not play this targeted

7
Treatment C. Administer Mega Drug

Trash all dice on Mega Drug (except anchor die in the middle).

When the Mega Drug is applied, the effect is based on the number of dice in it (excluding the
anchor die), and depends on whether Mega Drug is applied as a Targeted Treatment in Step 1 or
as a Resuscitation in Step 6:

Targeted Treatment (Step 1) Resuscitation (Step 6)

1 die No effect No effect
2 dice Temperature, pulse and BP markers No effect
that are already above the 2D
(meaning “2 dice”) on the right hand
side of the “Patient Health Chart” are
moved to the 2D level.

Markers that are already below the

2D level are not moved
3 dice Markers above 3D level moved to 3D Markers above 2D level moved to
2D
4 or 5 Markers above 4D reset level moved Markers above 3D level moved to
dice to the 4D 3D
6 dice Not applicable
(You immediately win the game as soon as you add the 6th dice to the Mega
Drug in Step 3)

Treatment D. Reduce BP by 1

Cost: Trash 1 “available” white die

A player may decide to carry out this treatment if, for example, the BP marker is already at the
180/90 mmHg level and they need to create ability to be able to pay the cost for a White Drug
Action in Step 3.

8
WHITE DRUG ACTIONS

Effect: Reduce BP by up to 2*

Effect: Block virus evolution (+1 BP)

Additional Explanation:
- The text in brackets represents the “cost” of carrying out this action (i.e, increasing BP
by 1).
- If BP marker is already at the 180/90 mmHg level, then you may not carry out this
action (the same applies for other actions below which have a +1 BP cost)

- If you choose this action, you must play it.

- After applying the cost, proceed to carry out the effect (ie lift the die from White Drug
Actions chart, apply the effect, then place die on Mega Drug or trash it (if it doesn’t
meet Mega Drug placement rules)
- How to carry out the effect:
 Move the blue die from the virus track onto the organ weakness track (such that
blue die is diagonally across from red die). This way, you will know that the virus
evolution is blocked and must not be applied when you get to Step 7 “Resolve red
die vs blue die duel”
 After playing Step 7 and not evolving red die, simply move the blue die back onto
the virus track
Effect: Block virus effect 1 (+1 BP)
Additional Explanation:
- If you choose this action, you must play it.
- How to carry out the effect:
 Place the blue die on top of the red die. This way, you will know that the virus
effect must not be applied when you get to Step 5 “Apply virus effect”
 When you get to Step 5, simply move the blue die back onto the virus track

Effect: Reduce pulse by 1 (+1 BP)*

Effect: Boost green die by up to 2 (+1 BP)

Additional Explanation:
- Increase green die reading by 2. For example, if green die reading was 3, then you
may increase it to 5
- This action may be played even if green die reading will still be less than blue die after
applying effect. In that case, the only benefit you would get is being able to place
white die on Mega Drug

Effect: Reduce temp by 1*

* You may still choose these actions even if marker for BP, pulse or temperature is already at bottom of
the respective track. In that case, the only benefit you would get is being able to place white dice on
Mega Drug
