A. Introduction
1. Background
Language is very important for human being. Since we were children, we knew about language. It uses to communicate between each other, so there will be no
misunderstanding. Without language, people cannot understand what the other people want and maybe it will raise some problems in our society.
Apparently, language is not only has function as our communication, but language also make us learn the stage of learning language and language processing since
human were still a child. We can learn those through Psycholinguistic. Psycholinguistic is the study of the mental processes in understanding and producing language.
The example is how human learn language, first and second, or foreign language.
In psycholinguistic there is theories of second language acquisition especially avoidance strategies and achievement strategies
In this study, the researcher tries to analyze the text errors. The researcher hopes that the reader can classify and identify the text errors on student assignment through
Psycholinguistic, especially in using theory of second language acquisition.
2. Focus of Study
The researcher only focuses in error analysis of students writing assignment using theory of second Language Acquisition.
3. Significance of Study
For the reader, the researcher hopes it can help the reader to understand how to analyze using theory of second Language Acquisition error analysis and communicative
strategy.
B. Theoretical Review
1. Psycholinguistic
Psycholinguistic is the study of mental processes in understanding and producing language, e.g. how human learn language first or second, or foreign language (FLA
& SLA). The basic concept : Applied linguistics uses facts and findings in Linguistic (Phonological, morphological, syntactical and discourse issues ) into the
learning and teaching processes of foreign language.
2. Interlanguage
Interlanguage is the type of language (or linguistic system) used by second- and foreign-language learners who are in the process of learning a target language.
Interlanguage pragmatics is the study of the ways in which non-native speakers acquire, comprehend, and use linguistic patterns (or speech acts) in a second language.
Interlanguage theory is generally credited to Larry Selinker, an American professor of applied linguistics, whose article "Interlanguage" appeared in the January 1972
issue of the journal International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching.
3. Avoidance Strategies
a) Topic avoidance
The speaker, lacking the necessary vocabulary to refer to an object or action, avoids any mention to it. Eg. ‘wears a … pair of enormous trousers ‘ (braces).
b) Message abandonment
The speaker to begin to talk about a cocept but, feeling unable to continue, stops before reaching their communicative goal.
c) Semantic avoidance
The speaker says something different from what was originally intended.
d) Message reduction
The learner reduces their original message, report the same idea but with less precision and detail.
4. Achievement Strategies
a) Approximation
The speaker substitutes the desired unknow target language item for a new one, which is assumed to share enough semantic features with it to be correctly
interpreted.
b) World coinage
The learner makes a new word following the target language rules of derivation and composition.
c) Circumlocution
The learners describe an object or action instead of using the appropriate target language item.
C. Methodology
1. Subject Selection
In this research, subjects are being chosen by the researcher. The subjects are Resa Ade Kurnia and Anita Yani (The Eight grade of SMP N 11 Yogyakarta).
2. Subject’s Background
The subjects of letter assignment.
a) Resa Ade Kurnia the topic about letter.
b) Anita Yani the topic about letter.
I hope are you fine.
I need your story there Resa. Please call me about anything there.
E. Conclusion
Language is very important because it has a lot of functions in human life. Besides, it can be a medium to second language acquisition in human that usually appear instudents. The
Second language acquisition or SLA is the process of learning other languages in addition to the native language. For instance, a child who speaks Hindi as the mother tongue starts
learning English when he starts going to school. English is learned by the process of second language acquisition. In fact, a young child can learn a second language faster than an
adult can learn the same language.
