1.Content is suitable to the student's level of development.
2.Material contributes to the achievement of specific objectives of the subject
area and grade level for which it is intended.
3.Material provides for the development of higher cognitive skills such as critical
thinking, creativity, learning by doing, inquiry, problem solving, and the 21st
century skills.
4.Material is free of ideological, cultural, religious, racial, and gender biases and
prejudices.
5.Material enhances the development of desirable values and traits.
6.Material arouses interest of target reader.
7. Adequate warning / cautionary notes are provided in topics & activities where

1.Story
✓The story has a catchy title.
✓The story focuses on one main theme.
✓The story arouses the interest of the child.
✓The story length is appropriate to the age
group, type and content of the material.

2. Socio-cultural sensitivity
✓ The material is free from ideological, cultural,
religious,racial, and gender biases and prejudices.
✓ The material is related to one’s own cultural
experiences or those of other cultures.
✓ The material promotes appreciation of positive
customs and culture (e.g., special days or
occasions, cultural activities or celebrations, etc.)
✓ The material provides awareness of one’s own
country.

✓ Printing is of good quality (i.e., no broken letters, no typographical
errors, even density, correct alignment, properly placed screen
registrations, no misprints)

✓Typographic layout / design adequately supports concepts presented.
✓Printing is of good quality (i.e., no broken letters, even density, correct alignment, properly
placed screen registration).
✓Material / Paper used contributes to easy reading and is durable. Binding is suitable for its
intended purpose and durable to withstand frequent use
