Teaching Practice Task 2 – Monitoring the Learning

Program link: This task is associated to the guidelines of the course EPR 3023 – Teaching Methods for
the Primary School Teacher (Course learning outcomes 4 – Plan and implement appropriate modes of
assessment for primary mathematics teaching and learning)

Objective: Describe how you monitored the learning when the students were working on their
activities and identify the tools used to record your data. For each lesson you teach, you will describe
the tool that you use to monitor the work of the children. In the second column, you will describe how
you used that tool and you will reflect on how useful it was.

1 In the first lesson, I choose to
Observe my student and take
Lesson 1 notes, to know them more and
to see if they understand the
lesson from me as it was my
first time, I teach them
Observing is the best way to monitor your student
while they are working, because as a student teacher
you should to see how your student doing while they
are working, check if they get the lesson, take notes,
figure out how the low-level student is doing, check
how is your student thinking Observing was really
great way, and the notes that I take helps me
to prepare for the other lesson according to the student
notes that I have wrote it’s also gives me valuable
information about students' progress ,understanding,
strengths and challenges ,cooperation, study habits,
and attitude.

2 After using observation and
knowing student more I
Lesson 2 decide to use Questioning,
I use this way to assess
student understanding of
the lesson concept.
As students work on an assignment that I gave them, I
start to ask individuals questions relating to their work
.I start to sit down with student in small groups and ask
them to give me a connection between the question
and the real life, in addition and subtraction, let the
them draw a picture of an addition or subtraction
problem and then let them tell me about it, how
they know the answer are correct, or if they can think
of a different way that applies to addition or
subtraction.

3 Self-assessment, At the end of the lesson or the activity I use thumps up

student asses them self.
strategy, this strategy helps me to know who
understand and helps the student to feel confident and
raise their thumps up or down or in the middle to show
the teacher if they get the lesson or not .Also, I use a
different strategy that at the end of each worksheet
there is question that ask the student what they
learned from the activity .So, this way show the
teacher what the student learned from the work that
they have done.

4 Entrance and Exit Tickets
Lesson 4
At the beginning of each lesson my MST give the
student an entrance tickets, this ticket has are view
questions from the last lesson, the MST gives the
student 2 to 3 min to solve the question and then she
takes it from them, also at the end of the lesson the
student get the exit tickets to check their understanding
of the lesson before they leave the class .This strategy
give the teacher a clear picture of
each student’s level of understanding, as
well as where his or her understanding may have
been unaltered.

5 Summarizing / Ask The teacher uses this way by asking the student
students to reflect to come in the front of the class or in their group
Lesson 5 student share to each other what they have
learned and summarize what they have learned,
by show how they solve the question or how they
figure out how plants grow.

6 One question quiz The teacher use this strategy at the end of the lesson
or the beginning of the lesson, give the student a
Lesson 6 question in the begging of the lesson to check their
understanding and if they review in home the previous
lesson, or teacher can give the student the question
immediately at the end of the lesson to check their
understanding of the lesson, by the student answer the
teacher will know who get the lesson and how to
improve or re-teach the lesson again in the next
lesson.

7 Presenting The teacher uses this strategy at the end of the

lesson. Let students to present their work and talk
Lesson 7 about it
