Region III
Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes
and sizes, and geometric relationships.
Performance Standards: The learner is able to create model of plane figures and formulate and solve
accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of a polygon.
Learning Competency: The learner illustrates a circle and the terms related to it: radius, diameter
chord, center, and chord. (M7GE-IIIg-1)
Objectives:
1. Define circle.
Learning Resources:
page 436.
Procedure:
Give examples of circles that you can see in your everyday life.
Among those examples you have given, which of these can be in another shape?
Identify also those who cannot have other shape than circle. Why?
Can you imagine a triangular wheel or a cube Earth? Why or why not?
Imagine an oscillating fan being straight-edged. What do you think will happen?
A circle is the set of all points in a plane at a given distance (radius) from a given point
(center) in a plane. A circle is named by its center.
Show the students on how to construct a circle using a compass by following these
instruction:
Second, pin the leg of your compass where it has a pointed end on one endpoint of
your line segment.
Third, land the other leg which has a piece of lead on the other endpoint of the line
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills#1.
Identify the center, radius, chord, and diameter of the circle, and name the circle.
1. During 1971 and 1972, “Moon buggy” was used by the astronauts to travel around the
moon. The moon has a diameter of 3,474 km. On the figure below, shows the path the moon
buggy traveled and the diameter of the moon.
2. Last December 1, 2018, “The Biggest Lantern of Hope”, a giant ferris wheel commonly
known as “Pampanga Eye” in Sky Ranch located in SM City Pampanga displayed various of
lights in the sky.
3. Loom bands are popular among youth. It was a craze started in the early 2014. The photo
below is a tool used in creating loom bands.
F. Developing Mastery(Leads to Formative Assessment 3).
Using the given measurement of radius, each group will construct a circle and draw an
artwork from it.
After drawing the artwork, each group has to identify the center, one radius, one
diameter, one chord, and name the circle.
Creativity -- 5 pts.
Neatness -- 5 pts.
G. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living.
The teacher will ask the students to explain the famous quotation, “Bilog ang mundo.”
The teacher will ask the students to describe circle and its primary parts, and state on how to
name the circle.
