Weekly Journal

Regular evaluation updates are required with every unit. Please remember to
take photos and get behind the scenes footage as you film. You might find it
easier if you note down a record of what you did each day in a diary form.

Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.

Week 1 This week you worked on your idea generation and

topic research
What have you been asked to Film a factual programme, short film and animation on a
do? topic of my choice ( Life of an Individual Artist)
What are you making your 3 I am making my 3 productions on the life of on individual
productions on and why have artist, I have chosen this topic because I am very close
you chosen this topic? friends to a small upcoming artist and means I can find out
alot about what its like to be an individual artist and how
they promote their music and the challenges they face. I
can now use primary and secondary infomation I have
found through the research I have found in class and set
up an interview which will work perfectly for my factual
programme.
What research have you I have used the internet to gain secondary research from
completed this week and what articles about how individual artists promote their music
have you learned? and got an insight into how hard it is to get noticed. I have
also completed a full interview with 3 other students of
the college learning their opinion and knowledge on being
an individual artist.
Are you on track for this week? If I am on track as I have got my interviewee and a full plan
not, how far behind are you? of how my my productions are going to go.
What work do you need to none I am on track now just to plan fully the real interview
complete outside of lessons to and go out and film it.
stay on track?
Week 2 This week you worked on your factual programme

What research have you We managed to get a practise interview with jack ( an
completed this week and what independant artist) and we gathered alot of primary
have you learned? research from him. We found out about the life of an
independant artist, how to become one, how to promote
their music, what type of platforms and socials they can
put their music out there on.
How have you divided your The planning was difficult at first, getting everyone in the
planning amongst your group? group to settle on one specefic topic and idea. But we
managed to make individual roles, Taylor was doing the B-
Roll planning, Will was working on the structure of the
factual programme and what has to be involved in it. I
planned the equpiment, crew list, locations and the
reccies.
What did you learn from your I learnt that planning a documentary/factual programme
planning? How has it helped you is very different to planning a short film. This made it
to progress your idea? much more difficult as I had never actually filmed a
documentary before. It helped though becasue it meant I
did alot more research into the making of factual
programmes and even watches quite a few to get an
insight into how they are made and how I was going to
pull it off.
Are you on track for this week? If Yes definetly on track got all the locations, transport,
not, how far behind are you? equipment and all the interviews sorted.
What work do you need to nothing
complete outside of lessons to
stay on track?
Week 3 This week you worked on your production

How helpful did you find your If we hadn't of planned the filming, I would not have a clue
planning whilst out shooting your of what to do and how to film it as a documentary. It
factual programme? would of stressed everyone out as we wouldn't have
known if we were doing it correctly. Also planning helped
alot with getting the actual interviews done and
succesfully doing the two camera set up.
What interviews did you set up I set up two interviews one with J.A ( A.K.A Jack Agar) an
and how do you feel they have independent artist, who we interviewed outside the
added to your production? studio in London in a very colloquial format but still with
the two camera set up. The other interview was with
Tweeko, a sound engineer and music producer who is very
popular around London for grime and uk rap. We
managed to get a two camera set up interview of him in
his studio.
What issues did you have when When filming the production the only major problems we
filming your production? How did faced was the audio because all the filiming was done
you overcome them? outside on the busy streets of London, other than in the
studio. As London is such a chaotic place crammed with
people, cars, trains and buses there is a large amount of
noise everywhere which meant during the outside
interview with Jack there was alot of background sound.
We overcame them slightly in editing where I was able to
focus the audio more on Jacks answers other than the
sound around the cameras.
How do you feel you are working We were working well as a group, we all knew our jobs
as a group? What were your roles and just got as much footage as possible. Sadly, one of the
and responsibilities? people in my group could not make it to London, which
meant there was only two of us. That made it a bit harder
as there was now only two people to do a three man job
but we just stayed to our first jobs and in the end it was
fine we still got enough footage. However I do think it
would of been better with the third person as there would
been that extra angle on certain things that mey have
been a better quality shot than the others.
How much work did you Mostly everything, only the planning was done in class
complete outside of the lessons? when the whole group was together. Other than that the
filming was all outside of college and the editing I did at
home as i felt I needed a solid full day to get it done in a
comfortbale focused environment where I had all my
equipment I needed. E.g: Headphones, Laptop, Mic and
comfy area.
Are you on track for this week? If Yes definitely on track finished filming a week before the
not, how far behind are you? deadline which gave me a week to edit everything and
finish it up to a standard I thought was very good.
What work do you need to Just the write ups.
