Insecticide-treated mosquito nets will reduce the number of mosquitoes that enter

the house and if the range of people who have insecticide-treated nets is> 80%, the
number of mosquitoes and the length of mosquito life will be reduced3. When this
happens, all members of the community will be protected. Most mosquito nets are
made of polyester, polyethylene, or polypropylene. WHO recommends pyrethroid
insecticide for use in mosquito nets because it poses very low health risks to humans,
but has toxic effects on insects, even at very low doses. Pyrethroids do not break
down quickly unless washed or exposed to sunlight3.

The acceleration of malaria elimination is carried out through strategies to

intensify spraying homes selectively, increasing the protection of malaria vulnerable
groups, integration by involving various programs, increasing coverage of early
detection and appropriate treatment, and increasing public awareness and knowledge
to take preventive measures2. Monitoring and observing risk factors, ways of
transmission, ways of prevention, incubation period, symptoms and signs of malaria
are the actions of the community in breaking the chain of transmission. Another
behavior is to conduct blood tests immediately to health personnel if there are
symptoms of fever during endemic areas until one month after returning from
endemic areas2. The community must also provide their doctor with a travel history.
Ravendra's research in India illustrates community social groups, number of family
members, home area related to malaria incidence8.

In this research, the identification of malaria cases in pregnant women and

toddlers based only on reports sourced from Puskesmas and hospitals is a weakness in
research. Model identification of malaria cases based on complaints of fever that arise
allows there are still many cases of malaria in pregnant women and toddlers that have
not been detected. According to researchers it is better to do more specific
examinations such as blood tests and examination of the spleen in children. The
conclusion of this study is the availability of mosquito nets in malaria-prone families,
especially in families who have pregnant women and toddlers are still low. The use of
insecticide treated bed nets can reduce the incidence of malaria in both risk groups,
namely pregnant women and children under five. Provincial and district health offices
should prioritize increasing access to insecticide-treated nets through various channels
and promotions.
