Way forward for Indian Corporates : Alignment to SDGs

NITI Aayog (Indian Government’s think-tank) has accepted the 17 Sustainable Development Goads
(SGDs) conceptualized by the United Nations. While some of the leading Indian corporates have
aligned their sustainability processes to these SDGs, a wider alignment in coming years is needed.

More than half of the top 500 listed companies have overseas business presence (offices/exports);
hence the logical step forward for these corporates would be to align to UN SDGs

4
ESG Indices – An effective way to spread ESG awareness

ESG based indices have been fairly recent in India, compared to global ESG indices which were
launched as early as 1990. Dow Jones, S&P and FTSE have several ESG based indices.

ESG benchmarks have historically been excellent tools to spread awareness about early stage
concepts

In this regard, Indian exchanges are collaborate with UK exchanges for developing new ESG indices

5
Corporate Governance standards in India: Picking pace

India is striving to push up its corporate governance standards towards global levels – the pace of
improvement has certainly accelerated in the recent years

We see scope for Indian regulator SEBI

and UK regulators such as FRC/FCA
exchanging frameworks for developing
the best practices for Corporate
Governance

ESG & Edelweiss

The Edelweiss Group, a partner in this event, is a well known

name in ESG in India, and has rapidly attained a leadership
position in ESG research within a short time.

As we stand, Edelweiss is the only financial group in India which

has a full fledged ESG team and its high quality ESG offerings are
sought by a variety of stakeholders, ranging from institutional
investors to top managements and Boards of several corporate
groups.

Edelweiss has always looked at Sustainability as a 'Core Value'

and this is amply reflected in the success that it's ESG teams are
experiencing.
