SECTION 3B

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GENERATING


EQUIPMENTS

4 TRANSFORMERS

4.1 SCOPE

The transformers to be supplied and installed in the power station shall be as follows :
(a) Two (2) Rated Power  5000 kVA three phase main transformer for HV (kV) -
Coupling 20 – Star; LV (kV) - Coupling 6.3 – Delta; Type Outdoor - Oil Filled With
Conservator Oil Type Mineral Oil; Frequency (Hz) 50; Cooling ONAN.
(b) One (1) 100 kVA three phase station service transformer, 20 KV to 380-220 V of
three phase four wire system, oil immersed type, self cooled, out-door use type.

4.2 TEMPERATURE RISE

The maximum temperature rise for oil immersed type transformer shall not exceed the
following values at the rated output :
60°C in oil by thermometer
65°C in winding by resistance measurement

4.3 FREQUENCY

The transformers shall be designed for the frequency of 50 Hz.

4.4 INSULATION LEVELS

The transformers shall be withstand the following voltages ;


(a) Full - wave lightning impulse
1,2 x 50 micro - seconds: 125 kV
(b) Power frequency 50 Hz for one minute: 50 kV

4.5 INSULATING OIL

Insulating oil shall be non slugging and of medium - viscosity. The characteristics of oil
shall comply with IEC 296 Class I and shall be equivalent to "shell Diala B" which is
available in Indonesia or equivalent mixable with shell Diala B.

4.6 MAIN TRANSFORMER (STEP-UP TRANSFORMER)

(1) Type and Ratio


The transformer shall be of three phase, oil immersed, self cooled, outdoor use type with
off circuit tap changer. The no load ratio of star delta connection shall be 6.3kV to 21;
20.5; 20 R; 19.5; and 19 kV. The connection shall be arranged in accordance with vector
symbol Ydn 11 of IEC 76 - 1967 and the neutral point of star connected winding shall be
brought out,
(2) Rated output
The continuous rated output of the transformer shall be 5000 kVA on any of the taps and
on the basis that the output refers to 20 kV side winding of the transformer.
(3) Impedance
Impedance voltage at the rated output shall be not less than 5 percent on ail tapping
(4) Core
The transformer cores shall be built up of thin laminations of the best quality no aging
silicon steel. Lamitation shall be coated with an insulating material and clamped securely
with insulated bolts.
The design of the core and the method of clamping shall be such as to ensure it free from
excessive noise and vibration. The clamping framework shall be built up of structural steel
members.
The core and windings shall be so located within the casing as to prevent movement.
The core shall be electrically connected to the casing transformer.
(5) Winding and Insulation
The windings shall be of high conductivity copper. The amount of insulation shall be
determined not merely by normal voltage per turn, but also by due consideration of the
line voltage and the service conditions and other associated fault conditions.
The insulation of the end turns of each winding adjacent to the transformer terminals shall
be reinforced between turns or provided with suitable means to protect the winding
against surges and transients.
The windings shall be so arranged and so firmly clamped in position that they will
withstand the mechanical stresses to which they might be subjected on short circuit.

(6) Bushing
The bushings for 20 kV side and 6.3 kV side shall be of solid single piece porcelain type.
The terminal of each bushing shall be bolted with compression type terminal for cables
with a copper conductor.
All bushings shall be brown glazed. The bushings should be cover with bushing cover (air
cover) to avoid physical contact with "live" portion of bushings.
(7) Casing
Cores and windings shall be enclosed and securely held in a casing made of stout steel
plates. The casing shall be of welded construction, suitably stiffened by means of channel
or angle section welded to the casing, and shall be absolutely water and hot oil tight and
suitable for vacuum drying. It shall be designed so as to permit convenient handling.
Necessary lugs and shackles shall be provided to enable the whole transformer to be
lifted bodily by truck crane or other means.
The base of the transformer shall be of skid type.
The casing cover shall be designed so that the bushings can be easily removed and
connections to the windings easily made.
The inside of the casing and all the steel connections shall be sand or shot blasted. All mill
scale shall be completely removed from the outside of the casing before painting.
Two grounding pads for 95 mm2 copper conductor shall be welded to the base of the
casing.
(8) Radiators
The transformer shall be provided with radiators of sufficient capacity to prevent
overheating the transformer when operated continuously at the rated output of the
transformer.
(9) Tap Changer
The off circuit tap changer shall be provided on 20 kV side with taps at 21; 20.5; 20 R;
19.5; 19 kV. The tap changer shall be capable of operating under off circuit condition from
the outside of transformer. Tap position shall be clearly indicated and means of locking
shall be provided. All taps shall be rated for full output.
(10) Protection
The following protection shall be provided on the transformer :
(a) Oil temperature high; alarm
The dial type indicating thermometer calibrated in centigrade and equipped with
alarm contacts suitable for 110 V D.C. shall be supplied for indicating the oil
temperature.
(11) Skid Base
Skid base shall be locked after positioning on foundations by means of appropriate
devices, which stand against a mechanical impact of 0.5 G.

(12) Accessories
The following accessories shall be provided for the transformer;
(a) Oil valves for oil handling and sampling
(b) Explosion vent
(c) Oil level gauge
(d) Pressure
(e) Hand hole
(f) Lifting lugs
(g) Rating plate and connection diagram with full details of rating
(h) Necessary terminal connections
(i) Two grounding pads
(j) Foundation bolts and nuts
(k) HV & LV Porcelain Bushings
(l) Oil temperature indicator with contact
(m) Conservator with oil level indicator and dehidrating breather
(n) PRV (Pressure Relief Valve)
(o) Bucholz relay
(p) Terminal box for wiring

(13) Spare Parts


The following items shall be furnished and quoted as spares :
(a) One (1) bushing of each type with conductor and terminal
(b) One (1) set of gaskets
(c) One (1) oil level gauge
(d) Three (3) bursting plates
(e) One (1) pressure gauge
(f) One (1) dial thermometer

(14) Test
(a) The following tests shall be carried out at the manufacturer's plant before shipment :
i) Appearance check
ii) Measurement of ratio on all taps
iii) Check of polarity and phase relationship

iv) Measurement of winding resistance at each tap


v) Measurement of no-load current and losses
vi) Measurement of load losses at rated current
vii) Measurement of impedance voltages on all taps
viii) High voltage test
(b) The certificates of the following type test items shall be submitted with the test
report:
i) Temperature rise test
ii) Impulse voltage test
(c) The test of specified in Sub-Section 1.19 shall be carried out by the Contractor at
the site.

4.7 SERVICE TRANSFORMER

(1) Type and Ratio


The transformer shall be of three phase, oil immersed, self cooled, outdoor use type with
off circuit tap changer. The no load ratio of delta star connection shall be 21 F 20 R 19 F
kV 380-220 V of three phase four wire system. The connection shall be arranged in
accordance with vector symbol Dyn 11 of IEC 76 - 1967.
(2) Rated Output
The continuous rated output of the transformer shall be 100 kVA on any of the taps and
on the basis that the output refers to 380 V side winding of the transformer.
(3) Impedance Voltage
Impedance voltage at the rated output shall be about 3.5 percent on all tapping.
(4) Bushings
The bushings for 20 kV side and 380 - 220 V side shall be of single piece porcelain type.
The terminal of each bushing shall be bolted with compression type terminal for 600 V
PVC insulated cable with copper conductor: four cores. All bushing shall be brown glazed.
Then shall be covered with bushing cover if the transformer located inside powerhouse.
(5) Tap Changer
The off circuit tap changer shall be provided on 20 kV side (generator bus side) with taps
at 21 V, 20 V and 19 V. The tap changer shall be capable of operating under off circuit
condition from the outside-of transformer. Tap position shall be clearly indicated and
means of locking shall be provided. All taps shall be rated for full output.

(6) Core, Winding, and Insulation, Casing, Radiators and Skid Base
The Core, winding and insulation, casing, radiators and skid base for the station service
transformer shall generally conform to the relevant articles of Sub-Section 4.6.
(7) Protection
The protection for the station service transformer shall be as specified in Clause (10) of
Sub-Section 4.6.

(8) Accessories
The accessories for the station service transformer shall be as specified in Clause (12} of
Sub-Section 4.6.
(9) Spare parts
The spare parts for the station service transformer shall be as specified in Clause (13) of
Sub-Section 4.6.
(10) Tests
The station service transformer shall be subject to the tests as specified in Clause (14) of
Sub-Section 4.6 as applicable.
