SECTION 3B
4 TRANSFORMERS
4.1 SCOPE
The transformers to be supplied and installed in the power station shall be as follows :
(a) Two (2) Rated Power 5000 kVA three phase main transformer for HV (kV) -
Coupling 20 – Star; LV (kV) - Coupling 6.3 – Delta; Type Outdoor - Oil Filled With
Conservator Oil Type Mineral Oil; Frequency (Hz) 50; Cooling ONAN.
(b) One (1) 100 kVA three phase station service transformer, 20 KV to 380-220 V of
three phase four wire system, oil immersed type, self cooled, out-door use type.
The maximum temperature rise for oil immersed type transformer shall not exceed the
following values at the rated output :
60°C in oil by thermometer
65°C in winding by resistance measurement
4.3 FREQUENCY
Insulating oil shall be non slugging and of medium - viscosity. The characteristics of oil
shall comply with IEC 296 Class I and shall be equivalent to "shell Diala B" which is
available in Indonesia or equivalent mixable with shell Diala B.
(6) Bushing
The bushings for 20 kV side and 6.3 kV side shall be of solid single piece porcelain type.
The terminal of each bushing shall be bolted with compression type terminal for cables
with a copper conductor.
All bushings shall be brown glazed. The bushings should be cover with bushing cover (air
cover) to avoid physical contact with "live" portion of bushings.
(7) Casing
Cores and windings shall be enclosed and securely held in a casing made of stout steel
plates. The casing shall be of welded construction, suitably stiffened by means of channel
or angle section welded to the casing, and shall be absolutely water and hot oil tight and
suitable for vacuum drying. It shall be designed so as to permit convenient handling.
Necessary lugs and shackles shall be provided to enable the whole transformer to be
lifted bodily by truck crane or other means.
The base of the transformer shall be of skid type.
The casing cover shall be designed so that the bushings can be easily removed and
connections to the windings easily made.
The inside of the casing and all the steel connections shall be sand or shot blasted. All mill
scale shall be completely removed from the outside of the casing before painting.
Two grounding pads for 95 mm2 copper conductor shall be welded to the base of the
casing.
(8) Radiators
The transformer shall be provided with radiators of sufficient capacity to prevent
overheating the transformer when operated continuously at the rated output of the
transformer.
(9) Tap Changer
The off circuit tap changer shall be provided on 20 kV side with taps at 21; 20.5; 20 R;
19.5; 19 kV. The tap changer shall be capable of operating under off circuit condition from
the outside of transformer. Tap position shall be clearly indicated and means of locking
shall be provided. All taps shall be rated for full output.
(10) Protection
The following protection shall be provided on the transformer :
(a) Oil temperature high; alarm
The dial type indicating thermometer calibrated in centigrade and equipped with
alarm contacts suitable for 110 V D.C. shall be supplied for indicating the oil
temperature.
(11) Skid Base
Skid base shall be locked after positioning on foundations by means of appropriate
devices, which stand against a mechanical impact of 0.5 G.
(12) Accessories
The following accessories shall be provided for the transformer;
(a) Oil valves for oil handling and sampling
(b) Explosion vent
(c) Oil level gauge
(d) Pressure
(e) Hand hole
(f) Lifting lugs
(g) Rating plate and connection diagram with full details of rating
(h) Necessary terminal connections
(i) Two grounding pads
(j) Foundation bolts and nuts
(k) HV & LV Porcelain Bushings
(l) Oil temperature indicator with contact
(m) Conservator with oil level indicator and dehidrating breather
(n) PRV (Pressure Relief Valve)
(o) Bucholz relay
(p) Terminal box for wiring
(14) Test
(a) The following tests shall be carried out at the manufacturer's plant before shipment :
i) Appearance check
ii) Measurement of ratio on all taps
iii) Check of polarity and phase relationship
(6) Core, Winding, and Insulation, Casing, Radiators and Skid Base
The Core, winding and insulation, casing, radiators and skid base for the station service
transformer shall generally conform to the relevant articles of Sub-Section 4.6.
(7) Protection
The protection for the station service transformer shall be as specified in Clause (10) of
Sub-Section 4.6.
(8) Accessories
The accessories for the station service transformer shall be as specified in Clause (12} of
Sub-Section 4.6.
(9) Spare parts
The spare parts for the station service transformer shall be as specified in Clause (13) of
Sub-Section 4.6.
(10) Tests
The station service transformer shall be subject to the tests as specified in Clause (14) of
Sub-Section 4.6 as applicable.
