What is BCA?
Bachelor of Computer and Application is a three-year certification in Computer and its varied applications
(BCA) will enable you to shape your career in the IT management. Correspondence frameworks and data
innovation are the key segments of any industry of IT sector. Because of the development of data innovation
industries, there is the colossal demand of BCA graduates in India as well as in abroad. All the applicants
are advised to choose the course of BCA after their advanced education, i.e. 10+2. The programme delivers
hi-tech knowledge of different computer languages like JAVA, PHP, etc. with the basic conceptual
knowledge of Computer Application. The subjects include operations systems, database management, soft-
ware design, logical analysis and client-server technology, Programming in C Language (Basic and Ad-

mathematics as core subjects. The elementary qualification should be from a recognized board and with 50-
60% marks. Admissions are mostly based on the 10+2 scores without any entrance exam.

Definition - Operating System (OS)


An operating system (OS), in its most general sense, is software that allows a user to run
other applications on a computing device. While it is possible for a software application to
interface directly with hardware, the vast majority of applications are written for an OS,
which allows them to take advantage of common libraries and not worry about specific
hardware details.
The operating system manages a computer's hardware resources, including:

 Input devices such as a keyboard and mouse.


 Output devices such as display monitors, printers and scanners.
 Network devices such as modems, routers and network connections.
 Storage devices such as internal and external drives.

The OS also provides services to facilitate the efficient execution and management of, and
memory allocations for, any additional installed software application programs.

Types of Operating Systems


Following are some of the most widely used types of Operating system.

Objectives of Operating System


An Operating System has a special program which controls the execution of application pro-
grams. OS acts as an intermediary among applications and the hardware components. OS can be
thought of as having three objectives. These are:

 Convenience: It makes a computer more suitable to use.


 Efficiency: It provides the computer system resources with efficiency and in easy to use format.
 Ability to develop: It should be built in such a way that it permits the efficient development,
testing and installation of new system functions without interfering with service.

3. List all of the books where the copyright year is 2010 or the publish data is less than 60 days old
using the LastName field of the Author table, the Title, PubDate and Copyright fields of the Book
table and the PubName field of the Publisher table. Sort the query in descending order accord
ing to the PubDate field. Save this query as New Books.
4. List all of the books whose title contains Excel 2007 and that are published by Wiley using the
LastName field of the Authro table, the Title field of the Book table and the PubName field of
the Publisher table. Sort the query in ascending order according to the Title field. Save this query

5. List all of the books whose Edition field is empty using the LastName field of the Author table,
the Title and Edition fields of the Book table and the PubName field of th Publisher table. Sort
the query in ascending order according to the PubName field. Save this query as First Edition
Books.
6. List all of the books whose Edition field is not empty using the LastName field of the Author
table, the Title and Edition fields of the Book table and the PubName filed of the Publisher table.
