Assignment Question
II YEAR/III SEMESTER

1. Three forces of 2P,3P and 4P act along the three sides of an equilateral triangle of side
100mm taken in order. Find the magnitude and position of the resultant force.
2. Block A weighing 1000N rests on a rough inclines plane whose inclination to the
horizontal is 45°. It is connected to another block B, weighing 3000N rests on a rough
horizontal plane by a weightless rigid bar included at an angle of 30° to the horizontal.
Find the horizontal force requires to be applied to the block B just to move the block A in
upward direction. Assume angle of friction as 15 at all surfaces where there is sliding
3. A 500N block is in contact with a level plane, the coefficient of friction between two
contact surfaces being 0.25. If the block is acted upon by a horizontal force of 1300N,
what time it will elapse before the block reaches a velocity of 24 m/s.
4. An aeroplane, flying at 750 km/hr, towards west passes over a train, which is travelling at
80 km/hr, towards north. Calculate the velocity the velocity of the aeroplane relative to
the velocity of the train.
5. Four forces of magnitude and direction acting on ABCD of side 2 m are shown in fig 1.
Calculate the resultant in magnitude and direction and also locate its point of application
with respect to the sides AB and AD

6. A car A starts from rest with uniform acceleration of 0.6 m/s2 .A second car B starts from
the same point after 10 Seconds. The car B follows the same route with an acceleration of
1.2 m/s2 .Determine the time necessary to overcome the car A ,and the distance covered
when B passes A.
7. A car of mass 150 Kg is travelling on a horizontal track at 36 Km/hr. Determine the time
needed to stop the car. The co-efficient of friction between the tyres and the road is 0.45.
8. A bullet of mass 50 gram is moving horizontally with a velocity of 450 m/s and strikes a
woodn block of weight 35 N,resting on a rough horizontal floor. The bullet is embedded
into the block and then both block and bullet move as a single unit.Calculate the distance
moved.Take co-efficient of friction=0.35
9. ABCD is weightless rod under the action of four forces P,Q,S and T as shown in fig.2. If
P=11N, Q=6N, S=8N and T=10N. Calculate the resultant and mark the same in direction
with respect to the end A of the rod.

10. A bullet of mass 30 gram shown in fig 3, is fired horizontally into a body of mass 10kg,
which is suspended by a string of 0.8m long. Due to this impact, the body swings through
the angle of 30°. Find the velocity of the bullet.
