DETAILED LESSON PLAN

SCIENCE GRADE 9

I. LEARNING OUTCOMES

CONTENT STANDARD : The learners should be able to understand how cell

divide and produce new cell.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD : The learners should be able to construct a model to
demonstrate the different stages of mitosis.
VALUES INTEGRATION : The learners should recognize the significance of
cell cycle in all living organisms.

A. COMPETENCY
 Explain what happens in the stages of mitosis.

B. OBJECTIVES
At the end of 60- minute discussion, the students should be able to:
 identify the role of mitosis in cell cycle (SBLT-IVd-16);
 construct a model to demonstrate the different stages of mitosis; and
 show appreciation to the significance of cell cycle in all living organisms.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic : Cell Cycle

Materials : Laptop; video clip; modeling clay; manila paper

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES/ PROCEDURE (4As)

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
Daily Routine
 Cleanliness and orderliness
of the classroom
 Prayer
 Checking of attendance
1. Review
Teacher and student will
recapitulate the last lesson they (Students will be called randomly.)
tackle.
2. Motivation
“Picture Smart Talking”
(Teacher will show some pictures
and students are expected to give
their insights about what was
shown.)

1. Why do human grow?

(Students are anticipated to give their
own perception to the pictures shown.)
2. Why do animals shed their
skin? (Students answer vary)

3. Why human wound heals after (Students answer vary)

B. ACTIVITY
To give you better
knowledge about our topic, let me
just give you a challenging
activity. Are you excited?
Yes Ma’am!
(Teacher will divide the class into
four)
(The class is now divided into four)
Here is the mechanics of our
activity.
1. Each group will be assigned
with specific stage of mitosis to
work on.
2. Construct a model that
demonstrate the assigned
stage of mitosis through
modelling clay.
3. Choose representative from
your group to present and
briefly discuss your output.
4. You only have 10 minutes to
perform this task.

Group 1: Prophase
Group 2: Metaphase
Group 3: Anaphase
Group 4: Telophase

Any questions of clarifications

about the mechanics of the
activity?
None Ma’am.
Let me show you the rubrics for
you to be guided.
Rubrics presented.
You will be given ten (10)
minutes to finish the activity.

C. ANALYSIS
(Students shall present their work
and expected to explain what
happens during particular phase.)

 Group 1: PROPHASE

During the stage, chromosomes are

preparing for the separation. At this stage,
spindle fibers are already forming and
nucleolus starts to disappear.

 Group 2: METAPHASE

In metaphase stage, chromosomes are

now aligning at the middle of the cell
where spindle fibers hold both sides of the
chromosomes.

 Group 3: ANAPHASE

Anaphase stage is where cleavage starts

to form. Chromatid are pulled apart and
so chromosomes are separated and
directed to both sides of the cell.

 Group 4: TELOPHASE

The final stage of cell division is the

Telophase. The cleavage is already
formed and spindle fibers are now
disappeared. A new nuclear envelop is
formed and the new nucleoli are visible.
D. ABSTRACTION
Very good! You are all
correct! Everybody claps your
hands for a very well presentation
of your output.
(Students are clapping)
Now, for you to better
understand and witness the events
that occur in mitosis, I will let you
watch a short video about mitosis
and the activities that occur in
each stage.

presentation)

What is the video all about?

In your own understanding, About mitosis, Ma’am!

what is mitosis?

Ma’am, mitosis is a type of cell division in

which one cell divides to produce two cell

What are the four phases in
the process of mitosis?

Very good! These stages The four phases of mitosis are: Prophase,

one.
Why does mitosis occur?

Mitosis occur to repair and damaged cells,

E. APPLICATION
What is the importance of cell
division (mitosis) in living organism
especially for human?

1. The genetic material during interphase.

2. The period where DNA replicated.
3. The period of growth activity.
4. Structures that hold the chromosome together.
