Instructional Plan Title: Going on a Sight Word Scavenger Hunt

Lesson Summary and The students will be practicing learning their sight words by playing a

The students will be able to recognize and read their sight by the end of
this lesson.

Classroom and Student The teacher will do an IEP on all inclusion students. The teacher will

Specific Learning The students will go on a scavenger hunt to find different sight words.
Target(s)/Objectives: The students will identify different sight words on flash cards. The
students will be able to read and recognize sight words on sight.

Section 2: Instructional Planning

Anticipatory Set Time


Needed
The students will watch a video on YouTube on the iPads. 5
The video is call: Sight Word Song by Have Fun Teaching. This song will help the minutes
students learn their sight words by singing.

Multiple Means of Representation Time


Needed
 Before the start of the class, I will cut out one set of each student’s sight words then, 10-15
place them all over the classroom. minutes

 I will write “Scavenger Hunt” on the board then read it aloud to the class.

 I will ask the students if they have ever heard of a scavenger hunt before. Allow the
students time to answer the question. I will then, explain what a scavenger hunt is.

 I will introduce the 12 sights for the week to the students.

Explain how you will differentiate materials for each of the following groups:

 English language learners (ELL):

Ell students will be given handout with a list of the sight words. The students will match
the sights words that they find in the classroom.
I will assist the students if needed. I will read each word out loud to the ELL students.

 Students with special needs:

I will assist my special needs student with the scavenger hunt. I will assist them in match
the sight words with the pictures.

 Students with gifted abilities:

I will give the gift students five extra sight words to learn: be, been, it, is, an

 Early finishers (those students who finish early and may need additional resources/support):

If the students finish early, they will read their AR book.

Multiple Means of Engagement Time


Needed
 The student will start the scavenger hunt. They will find their on-sight words around the
classroom. The students will go back to the table to check off the sights words that they 30

the words to the picture. I will read their AR book to each student one-on-one.

The students will learn five extra sights words for the week.

The students will read their AR book if they finish their assignment early.

Extension Activity and/or Homework Time


Needed
 Each student will read one of their vocabulary word sentences in front of to the class. 20-30
Minutes

 The students will do the following page for homework. They will do page 10 to 15. The
assignment is on phonemic awareness and decoding. The students will study for their test
on their sight words. They will also study for their vocabulary test and AR reading test.

Rationale/Reflection
I feel that my students will be encouraging to do critical thinking and understanding of the text,
language/vocabulary while doing this lesson. The students will use their critical thinking as they
go through their scavenger hunt. They will be able to identify their sight words. They will pick
only their sight words not their classmates sight words. The students will be able to identify and
discuss their sight words when they are called on in class. They will also, be able to tell the
meaning of each word by using them in a complete sentence. The students will watch a video on,
how to pronounce different sight words. students will learn the definitions and the spelling of
each vocabulary words as well. The students will improve their reading by practice reading every
day. Overall, I feel that the students will master all the skill that are listed in this lesson.
