Jeddah City

Specific Purpose: the primary purpose of this presentation is to get the attention of the

audience to one of the beautiful cities of Saudi Arabia; Jeddah.

Jeddah is considered the most beautiful and vital city in the history of Saudi Arabia. This

city is referred by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Caliph of Islam Uthman ibn

Afan and its significance date back even the Era of Islam. Jeddah is considered as a gateway to

the two Holiest and Sacred places of Muslims. Enriched with the cultural heritage, Jeddah is

located at the Red Sea Coast. Jeddah is considered as a hub for commercial activities in Saudi

Arabia. It has the largest seaport on the red sea which enhances its significance economically and

every year the beautiful beaches in Jeddah around the coastline of the Red Sea attract visitors and

tourists. The King Abdul Aziz International Airport Jeddah is considered vital in the history of

Jeddah.

1) JEDDAH IS CONSIDERED AS A GATEWAY TO THE TWO HOLIEST PLACES

FOR THE PILGRIMAGE (Akeel, 2015).

a. In 674 A.D., the third caliph of Islam Uthman ibn Afan ordered historical

transformation of the city.

i. He ordered by reserving the seaport of the city in the services of

Pilgrimage who traveled to Makkah for Umrah and Hajj the by sea.

2) AL – BALAD (DOWNTOWN JEDDAH) (Laura, 2014)

a. Old Jeddah or Al – Balad, enriched with cultural heritage is considered as one

of the historical centers of the Jeddah City.

b. The historical buildings, traditional markets (known as Souks), mosques and

Gates (known as Baab) attract tourists every year.


i. For example, the Gold Market.

ii. The Jeddah Heritage Festival in the Holy Month of Ramadan.

3) KING ABDULAZIZ INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT JEDDAH (AVIS).

a. Following the vision of Caliph, the Ruler of Saudi Arabia at Jeddah Airport

built the special terminal, named, Hajj Terminal for the pilgrimage; from this

terminal pilgrimage were taken to Holy City of Makkah and Medina for

rituals i.e. Umrah and Hajj.

b. Due to the geographical location of the city and the airport, the Aero visuals

from landing and taxi show the mesmerizing scene of beaches.

4) CAPITAL OF TOURISM (Jeddah Chamber, 2017)

a. Jeddah is located at the coast of the Red Sea.

i. Due to its geographical location Jeddah is also considered as the Bride

of the Red Sea (Akeel, 2015)

b. Jeddah is home to the most beautiful beaches in Saudi Arabia and attracts

residents and tourists to beat the heat of summer. It is also known as the

Capital of Tourism.

Concluding the topic, Jeddah has historical value in the history of Saudi Arabia. From the stone

age era to the modernism, the city is developing and transforming at pace. Being the gateway to

the two holy cities, now Jeddah is transforming and considered as a hub of commercial activities

and also known as the capital of the economy due to its seaport and airport. Every year thousands

of tourists and millions of Pilgrimages arrived which eventually boost their tourism and demand

for basic necessities of human beings boost their economic activities.
