Perception of Grade 12 Students of Adamson University on Sexting Scandals

Methodology

Datum was gathered by the means of questionnaires that served as a guide throughout

the survey. The questions were open-ended, following on how the participants’ responded to

the question. Questions were aimed at capturing data on the student’s perceptions on sexting,

their practice and motivations for sexting, and their understanding to the consequences they

might face on sexting.

The qualitative design used by the researchers in order to find the perceptions of each
respondents on what are their perceptions on sexting, to dig deep through their answers
through questionnaires.

The research is limited to the Grade 12 students of Adamson University in which they

will participate on answering the questionnaires regarding to their perception on sexting

scandals.

The researchers gave survey-questionnaires to the respondents in which the

researcher’s gather the data and group the necessary answers to the corresponding research

questions in order to identify the answers for each question.

In line with the ethical requirements of the project, a range of protections was put in

place so that participants were aware of the sexual nature of some of the questions.

Throughout the survey, respondents were reminded that the survey would contain questions

about sexual content, personal questions, enabling them to reflect on the nature of the survey

and withdraw from participation at any stage. Confidentiality was assured in order for the

participants to answer the questions truthfully.

Introduction

The term sexting was first popularized in the early 21st century. Sexting is a combined

words of “sex” and “texting” known as sending sexual pictures or videos. It involves the

sending or receiving of sexually explicit images or videos via information and

communication technologies. Young adolescents nowadays have done sexting without prior

noticing it. This study will determine what are the perceptions, risk factors of sexting,

consequences when doing sexting and the different persons’ feelings or emotions of Grade

12 Stuents in Adamson University.

According to Crofts (2015) communication through technology became a factor in

romantic relationships through cellular phones, it is easy to contact someone even if distance

occurs, and by the use of cell phones, it is easy for people, especially teenagers, to go through

sexting. In accordance, Steven Woda (2009) stated that there are different consequences in

doing sexting when using mobile devices. For instance, it could be shared with people you

don't intend to share it with. It can be viral when it sending sexual pictures. If the photo have

leaked online, people who have done sexting could get a bad reputation when people have

engaged in sexting and if it went viral.
