The words given in the choices are called modals. When we say modal, this is a type of auxillary (helping
verb) that is used to express ability, possibility, permission, or obligation.
The most common modals in English language are: can, could, may, should, and must.

CAN - It is used to express ability (the capacity to do something).

Example: She can run a five-minute mile.
Can you play basketball?
He can compose an entire symphony in his head.
CAN is also used to express permission in an informal setting.
Example: Can I have another hotdog? (When talking to a friend)
Can you give me a paper? (When talking to a classmate)
We can go to our house if you are all bored here. (When talking to peers)

COULD - it is used to express possibility, past ability, and to make requests.

Example: Extreme rain could cause the river to flood the city. (Possibility)
I could play basketball when I was 12. (Past Ability)
Could you move a little to the left? I can't see the blackboard. (Request)
We could go on the trip if I did not have to work this weekend. (Conditional)

MAY - It is used to express permission in formal and most polite situations.

Example: You may borrow my jacket.
May I smoke in here?
May I make a phone call?
Johnny, you may leave the table when you have finished your dinner.

SHOULD - It is used to make recommendations or give advise.

Example: You should focus now on your family and less on work.
I should be in the office by 7:00 am.
We should return the videotape before the video rental closes.

MUST - It is used to express certainty; necessity or strong recommendation.

Example: Students must pass an entrance examination to study at this school.
You must take some medicine for that cough.
You must not swim in that river. It's full of crocodiles.
That must be Jerry. They said he was tall with bright red hair.

containing modals. After that, they will be told to present their output in front.

paper.
