A. Review
The students will be asked what are the points to remember in telling a story.
B. Motivation
The following questions will be asked:
As a student who used to encounter English everyday, are you confused about which you should use:
"can" or "could" or "may", especially when constructing a sentence? How about "should" or "must"?
How do these words differ from one another?
When should we use each of them in a sentence?
C. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
The class is grouped into six. Incomplete sentences will be presented on the board. Each group will
supply the appropriate modal to complete the sentence. The group who got the most correct answers will
be the winner.
Choices

1. In the English language, which part of speech do the words in the choices belong?
2. How are the sentences completed?
3. How did you determine the appropriate modal that best completes each sentence?
4. When can we use a particular modal in a sentence?
3. Abstraction
The words given in the choices are called modals. When we say modal, this is a type of auxillary (helping
verb) that is used to express ability, possibility, permission, or obligation.
The most common modals in English language are: can, could, may, should, and must.
4. Application
The class is divided into six groups. Each group will be instructed to compose a one paragraph story
containing modals. After that, they will be told to present their output in front.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Complete the following sentences by supplying the appropriate modal. Do this in a 1/4 piece of
paper.
V. Assignment
Gather information about William Butler Yeats and his literary works. Do this in a 1/4 piece of paper.
