BE SMART, DON’T START

Once You Start, It's Hard to Stop. Almost everyone knows that smoking

causes cancer, and heart disease; that it can shorten your life by 10 years or more;

and that the habit can cost a smoker thousands of money a year. So how come

people are still lighting up? The answer, in a word, is addiction.

People start smoking for a variety of different reasons. Some think it looks

cool. Others start because their family members or friends smoke. Statistics show

that about 9 out of 10 tobacco users start before they're 18 years old. Most adults

who started smoking in their teens never expected to become addicted. The body

doesn't need tobacco the way it needs food, water, sleep, and exercise. And many

of the chemicals in cigarettes, like nicotine and cyanide, are actually poisons that

can kill in high enough doses. Also beware of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes),

which contain cancer-causing chemicals and other toxins, including a compound

used in antifreeze. These battery-operated devices use cartridges filled with

nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals and convert them into a vapor that's
inhaled by the user. If you do smoke and want to quit, try to spend more time with

non smokers, they are the one that will help you to stop.

When quitting, it can be helpful to realize that the first few days are the

hardest. So don't give up. Some people find they have a few relapses before they

manage to quit for good.

Staying smoke-free will give you a whole lot more of everything — more

energy, better performance, better looks, more money in your pocket, and in the

long run, more life to live!

BE A DONOR
It is better to give than to receive. Becoming an organ donor is important

decision for yourself but it is also important decision for the life that you may have

the power to save.

People die every day, sometimes very unexpectedly. Have you ever thought

about being an organ donor? There are so many people; parents, grandparents and

children who wait on a list for months, maybe years, to receive a donated organ so

that they can live. More than 123,000 men, women, and children currently at this

minute need a life saving organ transplant. According to the National Kidney

Foundation, 10,000 to 14,000 people die each year who would have met the criteria

for an organ donor. The sad thing is that less than half of these people are willing

to donate or haven’t taken the time to think of it. Throughout this speech, I plan to

persuade you to, at least, think about becoming an organ donor. there are benefits

of becoming an organ or tissue donor. The strongest benefit of being an organ

donor is the fact that people's lives can be saved with the donations.

Just think, you could help over 50 people ,everyone should have the chance

to live like everyone else, no matter if they are sick. Some children are born with

an illness and never have the chance to live a normal life because of the shortage
of organ donors. These children may not be able to experience going on their first

date, playing football or basketball for school or even enjoying the simple everyday

life with friends. Donating organs isn’t just saving the next person or persons life,

but it is a gift to them and their family that people are truly in need of.

What if the person you knew was on the waiting list? I’m going to leave you

with a quote from Myles Munroe ” The value of life is not in its duration, but in its

donation. You are not important because of how long you live, you are important

because of how effective you live.
