6. Course Description:

Purposive Communication is a 3-unit course that develops students’ communicative competence in all macro
skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through multimodal tasks and tools, students learn to
communicate effectively and responsibly to a multicultural audience in both local and global contexts. Further,
it sharpens their ability to critically evaluate messages of all types.

The course applies the Mapúa English Language Test (MELT) in assessing students’ language proficiency.
