Introduction

Tourism is not always about pleasure. It is not always about having the chance to feel freedom and let
yourself detoxify from all the struggles you went through from the past weeks or months. Sometimes,
tourism bought threats and risks that could either affect the tourists or the tourist site. However, it is
safe to believe that most of these cases are bought by the tourists due to the very fact that tourists
are the one responsible for the wellness of the tourism sites. This paper will depict the negative effects
of tourists in environmental tourism in terms of two aspects namely: the increase in waste, and the
improper waste segregation

In environmental tourism, the chances of increase in waste and the surrounding being polluted is way
too high. Tourists who visits the location are often indulged by the idea that somebody will take care
of their trashes and garbage; either the housekeepers or the caretakers of the tourism site. It is always
important to address this cases in order to preserve the beauty of the site and best, to allocate the
provision of necessary actions to be taken in order to take care and monitor the situation of the
tourism site.

Aside from the increase in waste, improper waste segregation also requires attention. It ranges from
harmful plastics being seen everywhere, unwanted trash lying on the surface of the site, or sometimes,
shattered and broken glass bottles. It is vital to note that tourist gives life to tourism sites however, if
tourists are not responsible to their actions, it will most likely provide damage than life to the tourism
sites.

Considering the two aforementioned aspects among others is one step toward lessening the harmful
effects of tourism and/or tourists in environment or surrounding of the site. This paper presents that
taking necessary plan of action in basic problems like waste and segregation appropriateness leads to
a better management of tourism site and proper conduct of the tourists and of the supervising
individuals.

Plan of Action

Increase in Waste

One idea that this paper presents in terms of solving the Increase in Waste is the provision of trash
bins and trash cans in every landmark of the site. By landmark, this paper means the spot where
tourists usually take a break or a minute either allowed by the tour guide, or by subject peers. In that
particular manner, the waste level elevation will be controlled and trash from the tourists will lessen
drastically for a room for their dirt and garbage will be provided.

Next, allocation of signs or public service announcement in particular to waste control before entering
the site or even inside the tourist site will help aid the increase in waste. This action reminds the
tourists to take care of their trash and eventually help the management to maintain cleanliness of the
site.

Lastly, is the rule of limiting the number of disposables that a tourists could possess. Average amount
of disposable that a tourist should have shall only ranges between 5-7. This way, the amount of waste
is controlled and is monitored by the management.

Improper Waste Segregation

First thing that management should do is to educate the tourists especially the foreign on different
types of waste namely; bio-degrable and non-biodegradable. In this action, assurance of lucidness is
expected and that confusion on the tourists will not sink in. This provides room for the tourists to
better understand the protocol of the tourism site.

Secondly, the process of putting and displaying trash cans and bins captioned in bio-degrable and non-
biodegradable text is extensively required in achieving proper waste disposal. It helps the tourists
dispose their belongings in a proper manner for they were guided by the trash cans in which they will
dispose their trash.

Finally, management should allocate people to monitor the waste segregation of the tourist site. If a
tourist failed to comply by the protocol, the person assigned should be put in place of the tourists.
The work includes, segregating the waste, supervising the area and assuring peace and order in the
tourism area.
Conclusion

This paper concludes that tourism fuels the increase in waste and improper waste segregation.
However, the phenomena can be lessen and minimize the effect by following certain rules. In terms
of increase in waste, management can provide trash bins and trash cans, warning signs, and limitation
of disposables of the tourists. While in improper waste segregation, educating the tourists is an idea
in achieving order in this problem. Alongside this, is the provision of trash cans with captions
pertaining to biodegradable and non-biodegradable and finally, the allocation of people to manage
and supervise the segregation of wastes.
