Under normal conditions, every parameter of rectifier modules and distribution unit
are all under control of the monitoring module, operating according to the pre-set
parameters of user’s commands. If AC mains faults, the battery will power to the
system. With the battery discharge, the terminal voltage of the battery starts
descent. When the battery voltage drops to 45V (1V higher than the default load
disconnection voltage), the monitoring module will report ‘DC under-voltage’ alarm
signal. When battery voltage drops to 44V (1V higher than the default battery
disconnection voltage), the control contactor KM1 of monitoring module acts to cut
off the connection between power supply and the Load 2, Load 3, and Load 4.
Then the power system just powers to the Load 1 (important load) to prolong the
powering time for the important load. When battery voltage drops to battery
protection voltage point (43V), the control contactor KM2 of monitoring module acts
to cut off the connection between power supply and the battery and protects the
battery for over-discharge. Then the power system will stop working. When the
external AC mains recovers and the rectifier modules resume normal outputs, the
system will recover to the normal work state. (All above monitoring data are system
default values, users can reset.)
Except for battery over-discharge protection, the system is designed with battery
and load over-temperature protection function: if the battery or load temperature
exceeds 53℃ for continued 30 seconds, the monitoring module will control battery
or load power off unconditionally until the battery or load temperature drops down to
recovery point. Battery or load over-temperature function is prohibitive under
default condition, users can send command to active or inactive according to the
demanding. The range of load over-temperature protection point is 50~70℃
(default is 65℃), and recovery point is fixed designed 5℃ lower than the protection
point. The range of battery over-temperature protection point is 40~70℃ (default is
50℃), and recovery point is fixed designed 5℃ lower than the protection point.
The system can also collect and report all kinds of environmental parameters via
monitoring unit, such as: smoke, gate magnetic, waterlogging, temperature and
humidity, etc.

Function explanations:
1) There are two indicators (operation indicator and alarm indicator) on the panel of
the monitoring module to provide the system operating state to the users. When the
monitoring module is under normal operation, the operation indicator (green) is
flashing regularly. When the monitoring module detects alarm in the system, the
system alarm indicator (red) will be on. Otherwise it will be off.
2) The power system provides two communication ports: communication port COM
and MS, used for communicating with the host computer. Communication port
COM adopts RS232 or RS422 communication method, and communication port
MS adopts RS232 communication method, and the baud rate is fixed at 9600. The
communication port can also automatically identify whether the present
communication protocol is “Communication Protocol between PSM-B9 Monitoring
Module and Master/Slave Node of the Host” or “Communication Protocol between
PSM-B9 Monitoring Module and the Host of Access Network”. When the host
communicates with the standby communication port MS, the main communication
port COM stop communicating. The communication ports of COM and MS cannot
take effect at the same time. When the communication port MS of the monitoring
module communicates with the host, the communication port COM is of no effect.
3) The monitoring module connects with signal transfer box (optional fittings)
through signal port DB37, and then connects with various sensors through the ports
of the signal-transfer box to realize the expanding of the monitoring functions.

input port Users can connect correspond signal according to self-demanding, and can bring it into
the monitoring range after the simple configuration of the monitoring module.
The monitoring module of the system adopts hot-swappable design, and can be
replaced when the system is operating.
The address of the monitoring module can be set through the toggle switch on the
monitoring main board (eight digits, and four low bits are effective) to achieve the
centralized management of multi-power systems.
The monitoring module of the power system is used to monitor operation status and
environmental parameters of rectifier modules and distribution module. When the
monitoring module detects the abnormity, it can not only send light through the
panel, but also control the output of alarm dry contact according to the alarm class
of the current alarm information: JK1 will close when there is a serious alarm, and
JK2 will close when there is a general alarm.
The monitoring module of the power system also has the communication report
function. It can communicate with the host through RS232 or RS422 mode
according to the protocol defined internally by the enterprise. It can receive queries,
settings, and control from the host and can report the detected status and physical
parameters to the host for the convenience of centralized management.
The monitoring module of the power system also has the perfect battery
management function.
The power system provides two communication ports for communication with the
host. The ports locate on the panel of the system monitoring module.
Users can write the host monitoring software oneself according to the
communication protocol provided by the enterprise and realize the remote message,
remote sense, and remote control by the monitoring module. Users can realize the
centralized monitoring and automatic management of the power system in
monitoring center via RS232 or RS422 communication lines.
Main communication functions that can be carried out between the power system
and the host:
(1) Sending real time analog data from the monitoring module to the host.
(2) Sending real time digital data from the monitoring module to the host.
(4) Receiving control commands from the host such as on/off of rectifier modules.
(5) Receiving system configuration parameters set by the host and giving feedback
of the system configuration parameters to the host.
2. Control Functions
The power system can send control signals through the monitoring module
according to some inspecting values or the commands form the host.
(1) Turn on or turn off corresponding rectifier module according to rectifier on/off
commands sent by the host.
(2) Turn on or turn off the power for loads or batteries according to the power on/off
command and system parameters sent by the host.
(3) Control the on/off status of two digital outputs according to the control command
sent by the host.
(5) Control the output of dry contact according to the system current alarm class.
(6) Control the start/stop of the battery discharge testing according to the command
sent by the host and current system state.
3. Detecting Function
The monitoring module of the power system is able to perform real time detection
of distribution module parameters, rectifier module parameters, environmental
parameters, and standby digital parameters.
(1) Distribution module parameters: AC input voltage, bus voltage, total load current
of the module, current of battery group, circuit breaker status of load 1, circuit
breaker status of battery 1, status of load power off, status of battery power off.
(2) Rectifier module parameters: working status of each module (on operation/off
operation, failure, power off, and fan failure).
The monitoring module of the power system has professional battery automatic
management function to ensure battery groups in the system are always working
under good conditions.

When the power supply system operates independently, input should bare
simulated lightning strike impact current waveform of 8/20μS, ±5 times
for impacts of 5KA amplitude, and the interval time of each testing
impacting is not less than 1min. If the power system is hit by a lightning
surge current even stronger than what is specified above, it will be
damaged and put out of function.
If higher lightning arresting class (Class C) is wanted, the outside
Lightning single-phase AC Class-C lightning arrester box (SPD23SZ or SPD25SZ
Arresting Function lightning arrester box produced in our company is recommended) is
needed at the input of the power system. With the outside lightning
arrester box, the input of the system should bare simulated lightning strike
voltage waveform of 10/700μS, ±5 times for impacts of 5KA, lightning
strike impact current waveform of 8/20μS, ±5 times for impacts of 20KA
amplitude, and the interval time of each testing impacting is not less than
1min. Also the lightning arrester box has auto-disengaged and recovery
protection function for input over-voltage (>295V~305V) to avoid the
system damage due to over-voltage.
Cooling Method Forced air convection of inner fan inside the rectifier module.

The main radiation part of the system is rectifier module when the power system is
on operation. There is inner fan inside the rectifier module, a certain room should
be reserved in the front and the back of the module to provide ventilation and heat
radiation. At least 50mm space should be reserved in front of and in back of the
module to ensure the reliable operation of the module.
AC mains is preferred for the main power source for AC power supply, and use
single phase three wires. It must assure that protect grounding cable is reliable
grounding during operation. Copper core cable is preferred for AC input cable, the
section of the cable should adapt to the load. Try to use the stable AC power as the
power source. Unstable AC power may impact the operation of the power system
and decrease its life.
There is a lightning arrester in the rectifier module, and can endure lightning strike
shock wave of 1.2/50us 6KV and 8/20us 3KA. To prevent direct lightning strike to
damage the rectifier module from the power supply cable, it is suggested to install
the Class C or B lightning arrester according to the related specifications before AC
mains is led into the power system.
During transportation, distribution frame for power system, rectifier modules and
monitoring module are separately packaged. During installation of the system, the
distribution frame should be installed first, and then the rectifier modules and
monitoring module can be installed sequent. The illustration of installation can refer
to Fig.2-1.

f. Connect the other end of positive connection cable to the positive of the
battery.
g. Connect the other end of negative connection cable to the negative of the
battery.
Note:
1. Before connecting the battery, please note the polarity. It is strictly forbidden to
connect the battery to the power system with the mismatching polarity.
2. At the instant of connecting battery negative to “BATT” of connection terminals,
faint electric arc may occur, the situation is normal.
3. In order to prevent short circuit accident during operation, strict insulation
measures between body and tool must be taken when adding load with DC power

As shown in above figure, pin 1 and 2 of the terminal connects with GND, pin 3 is
sending end of TXD, and pin 4 is receiving end of RXD.
There is a signal interface transfer cable in the accessory of the signal transfer box.
The cable can transfer the mouse interface to a standard RJ45 interface. The
communication mode remains RS232, with the pin definition same as that of the
communication port MS.
This port must be used together with signal transfer box. The detailed information
can refer to “ 2.6.1 Installation of Signal Transfer Box”.
Note:
1) The communication cable must use shielding cable.
2) The two communication ports operate in the active-standby mode. When there
are data flows on both ports, the monitoring module responds only to MS.
2.6.2 Connections between Signal Transfer Box and Monitoring Module or Sensors
Signal transfer box W1A431Z1 and W1A431Z2 are the same except size and

1. Installation checking: check the stability of subrack, check the stability of each
component.
4. After installation, check to make sure that all switches of circuit breaker on the
panel of distribution unit are on the disconnection position (pull downwards) to
insure the safety
Power systems have been tested strictly in the factory before delivery. After the
installation of the power system , the following shall be inspected carefully before
the first power on.
■ Check that the connections of AC input cables, DC output cables, and battery
cables are secured, and that all the screws are not loose.
■ Check to make sure that all circuit breakers on the distribution module are off
(pulled downwards).
■ Testing with a universal meter to insure that there is not any short circuit
phenomenon in the AC input and the output terminals.
■ Check the connection between DC output and battery, check the numbering,
line sequence and polarity. Check the firm connection of cable terminals. Check to
make sure of the correct and reliable connection of bus bar. Check again the
polarity and sequence of battery connection.
After above inspections, the system can now be tested with first power on.
1. Turn on the AC power for the power system. Measure the voltage of AC input
with universal meter at terminals of L, N. If the AC power supply is abnormal, check
the AC power source.
3. Check the polarity and terminal voltage of “BATT(+)” and “BATT(-)” with a
universal meter (about 53V). If it is normal, close control circuit breaker of battery
branch and connect the battery into the system.
4. Close control circuit breaker of load branch, the power system will power supply
to the communication load.
If all above results are normal, it means that the power system is working under
normal conditions and the next step of testing can be conducted.
After installation and testing of GIE 4820/3A/3.45KW power system, it is ready for
use. It can be put into normal operation through simple power on operations when
needed. Power on process is given below:
The fan may be run then stop when powers the module on for the first time, and it
is normal because the fan adopts fan velocity adjusting technology. With some
loads, the inner temperature of the module will increase after operation for a period
of time, then the fan begin to run and it will speed up along with the increase of
inner temperature to insure the normal operation of the module.
Note:
To make sure the module cannot be damaged in some abnormal states,
over-temperature protection circuit is adopted inside the module. After a period
operation, the inner temperature of the module may be a little higher, turn off the
module at this time and then turn on the module, the module may have no output. It
is normal because the over-temperature protection circuit inside is working. 1~2
minutes later, the output of the module will recovery after the inner temperature
decreases.
If the fan does not run, and it still does not start over 5 minutes with the fan alarm
indicator is on, then the module may be damaged for long operation, and please
contact the technical service department of our company.
When the communication protocol between the monitoring module and the host
adopts “Master/Slave Node Communication Protocol between PSM-B9
Monitoring Module and the Host”, the communication address of the monitoring
module needs setting.

Upon delivery, the default setting parameters of the monitoring module may be
inconsistent with the scene or custom of users’ demanding. So users should look
over and reset the configuration parameters of the power system through the host.
Then the normal operation and function testing of the power system can be
conducted after the correct parameters setting.
Note:
When conduct system parameters setting through the host:
1. It must insure that the address parameters setting of the power system is
identical with the communication address set by the dial switch in 3.3.1 section,
otherwise the communication will be failed.
2. It must insure that the number of the rectifier module in the power system is
identical with the actual condition. Add to or remove the rectifier module from the
power system, it must re-modify the number setting of the rectifier module to make
sure according with the actual number. Otherwise the rectifier module alarm will
occur.
Power supply the load by the battery, cut off AC mains for above 15 minutes (±1
minute) then recover AC mains, all of the rectifier modules will be automatically in
current-limiting equalized charge state.
During the current-limiting equalized charge state of the module, it is normal that its
output voltage sometimes is below 53.5V.
Because the testing of battery auto-management requires strict for the system state,
it is not necessary to test battery auto-management, and the system has been
tested strictly in the factory before delivery.
Set the control module as background control through the host, and control on/off
of each module, and the corresponding module should act correctly.
Pay attention to changing the control mode to the automatic control module after
the testing is finished.
Cut off AC power, and supply power to load using batteries. Set DC under voltage
threshold, load shutdown voltage, and battery shutdown voltage to higher values (to
shorten the test duration). Then observe the alarm for battery under-voltage alarm,
shutdown for battery and load. The monitoring module sends out the alarms for DC
under voltage, load shutdown and battery shutdown one by one. Red indicators on
the panel of monitoring module shall be on, and control the dry contact of external
alarm sound-light alarm equipment to output superior alarm signal.
Recover the AC power, and restore the settings of under voltage threshold, load
shutdown voltage, and battery shutdown voltage, then above alarms should
disappear.
Set the power system address and the number of the rectifier module correctly,
insert and pull the rectifier module one by one, the background equipment should
display the communication state of corresponding module correctly.
Connect the battery to the system, then disconnect its circuit breaker. The
background equipment should give alarm on the disconnection of the
corresponding battery circuit breaker. The alarm will disappear when the breaker is
closed.
Connect the load to the system, then disconnect its circuit breaker. The background
equipment should give alarm on the disconnection of the corresponding load circuit
breaker. The alarm will disappear when the breaker is closed.
If sensors for gate magnetic, smoke and waterlogging have been installed, change
the status of sensors. The background equipment should give the corresponding
alarms.
Note:
1) If the terminal of corresponding load and battery circuit does not connect with
load or battery during testing stage, on its midair state, the alarm of circuit breaker
disconnection for corresponding load or battery cannot be reported accurately.
2) Be sure that system configurations are restored to normal status after testing.
After the power is on, simple operating information can be viewed via indicators on
the monitoring panel. For detailed information must be looked over through the
background monitoring.
If the user thinks it is more important to keep power supply to loads than to protect
the battery, and battery protection in case of AC outage is not desired, load and
battery shutdown permission state or battery shutdown permission state can be set
to no-permission state via the host.
Note:
When battery is discharged to protection value, the time for continued power supply
is very short. It is impossible to obtain the long time operation of loads with battery
sacrificed.
3.4.1 Inspection and Repair of Fan and Dust Mesh of the Rectifier Module
Dust will accumulate on the baffle plate after the rectifier works in dusty and windy
environment for a long period. To ensure long-term reliable and smooth operation
of the rectifier, it is necessary to clean the fan and baffle plate regularly.
Fan is wastage device, and it must be cleaned and replaced after it works for a
certain period. Fan replacing method: first unscrew the screws on the top right
corner of the fan to remove it, and then disconnect power cable. Do not touch the
devices within the rectifier module with hand during the cleaning or replacement.
Note:
1. Just the person who has been strictly trained professionally is capable of
cleaning and replacing the fan.
2. It is recommended to clean the fan once every 6 months, and replace the fan
with a new one after 3-5 years.
The module can be exit from the system automatically when its internal is
short-circuited.
After the module outputs over-voltage due to some reasons, the output of the
module will be locked up. Then the AC input of the module should be cut off until
the indicators are off and the power source can be turned on. If the over-voltage
still exists, the module may be damaged and need replacing.
For multi-module parallel working state, if the load is light, then one module
over-voltage will cause all the modules are in over-voltage state. Then it need
inserting the module one by one and powers on to test the failure module. The
failure module is replaced after it has been confirmed.
