Sanofi Factory Project

1. GENERAL
 “General Conditions of Contract” which shall apply to this section of the works.

2. SCOPE OF WORK

The following is a technical description of the design guidelines for the pre-engineered steel building.

The score of work of Tenderers comprise of:

- Main steel structure including of steel columns and beams for mezzanine;
- Roof purlins and wall girts,
- Support for ceiling in production areas
- Metal deckings and shear studs.
These works are detailed below.

These design criteria must be followed at all times. If Tenderers wish to vary from the following
document then these alternatives must be submitted and noted clearly in their bid document. This
requires Tenderers to submit both a complying and non-complying tender return bid.

This specification is to be read in conjunction with the drawings, other technical tender documents for
Architecture and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) disciplines.

Refer to the structural plans, sections and details numbered:

CSE-TD-GEN-S-02-02, -03

CSE-TD-FAC-S-30-50, -51, -52, -53, -54, -55

Roof and wall claddings: refer to Architect drawings and specifications

MEP heavy equipments & roof drainage system: refer to M&E drawings and specifications

Refer to the Tender conditions for delivery schedule, shipping, customs clearance, transport, health &
safety, site installation, unit rates, payment terms, retention, warranty conditions, maintenance
requirements and other similar commercial tender requirements.

3. STRUCTURAL SYSTEM

3.1 Factory building

The factory building comprise of:

- Warehouses (two mains warehouses, reception and dispatching warehouse, rejected material
warehouse),
- Production areas (liquid and solid production),
- Quality control area,
- Interface areas.
The factory building on ground floor with partial mezzanine and shape roof is Multi-span Steel rigid
frame for mains structure and intermediate steel columns just below the mezzanine.

Revision – Date: 30 September 2013 Specification-0351 Structural Pre-Engineering Building – Page 2/8
Sanofi Factory Project

The vertical and horizontal loads will be supported by Main portal steel frames in one direction and
by bracing in the other direction. These frames have pinned connections to column bases in order to
avoid transmitting moments to ground floor and to foundation.

The mezzanine level is composed of concrete slab on metal decking supported by steel beams and
steel columns. These steel columns are only supporting mezzanine floor slab.
The mezzanine floor slab is designed by reinforced concrete slab, not a composite one. This design is
not in the score of work of Tenderers.
However, Tenderers need to provide metal decking for slab formwork with shear studs between steel
beams and metal decking. A minimum shear studs @800mm on steel beams is required.

Steel stairs no 12 & 13 from the mezzanine level and Administration building roof level to the main
warehouse’s roof are provided.
Others small prefabricated stairs between main warehouse’s roof and others lower roofs need to be
designed and supplied by Tenderers.

Movement joints on mezzanine slab at grids 7 & 20 are provided to minimize the temperature and
shrinkage effects on the concrete mezzanine slab.

Refer to the steel plans, sections and elevations for locations of columns, beams, stairs no 12, 13 and
vertical bracing.

3.2 Ceiling support on the production areas

In the production areas, next to the mezzanine, a framework of horizontal beams needs to provided
in order to support plaster ceiling and walkable ceiling below. This framework is supported by vertical
steel hangers suspended to the main main steel rafters and columns.
Refer to the steel plans and sections for locations of framework and vertical steel hangers.
This framework and vertical steel hangers are in the scope of work of Tenderers.

3.3 Drain pipe support

In the factory building, interior drain pipes needs to be suspended to roof purlins by steel cables.
The design and supply of this drain pipes and steel cable are by others.
However, the Tenderer must take into consideration the impact of this weight onto the purlins, main
steel rafters and columns.

3.4 External walls support

External walls of factory building are in masonry of 5.5m height. These connect to the main steel
frames in order to transfer wind load into main steel frames.
The design of these walls is not in the score of work of Tenderers.
However, the Tenderer must take into consideration the impact of wind load on external walls onto
the steel frames.

4. DESIGN LOAD AND STANDARDS

Revision – Date: 30 September 2013 Specification-0351 Structural Pre-Engineering Building – Page 3/8
Sanofi Factory Project

The Client has strict requirements on the minimum loads and standards to be applied to the design
portion of the works and these are noted below.

Acceptable steel design standards are Bristish Standards, American Standards (AISC) or Vietnamese
standards (TCVN). Limits of deflections required are noted below.

In addition to the above international design standards the Client building Insurer has strict additional
design requirements to be followed and these structural items are noted below.

The Tenderer must provide in his return bid document a list of all design codes that they have used
for review by the Client.
If Tenderers wish to use different standards or load values to those documented below then these
alternatives must be submitted and noted clearly in their bid document. This requires Tenderers to
submit both a complying and non-complying tender return bid.

4.1 Gravity Loads

Gravity loads (dead load, superimposed dead load & live load) need to be accordance to with the local
TCVN standard and not less than loads required in the loading drawings S-02-01, S-02-02, S-02-03.

Concerning roof secondary elements such as purlins, claddings…, Client’s Insurance Company requires
roof live load 1kN/m2.

4.2 Wind Load

A. For main structure

Applicable wind loads and internal/external pressure coefficients are as a minimum to be in accordance
with the local TCVN standard and relate to the building shape, height and location. Load combinations
should follow the specified design standards specified in section 4 above.

B. For secondary structure

Concerning secondary elements such as roof purlins and wall girts, Client’s Insurance Company requires
design of wind load with the following criteria:
- Basic wind speed: 50m/s
- Wind uplift rating:
Field: 5.7 kPa
Perimeter: 7.9 kPa
Corner: 11 kPa
Perimeter strip width: 4.6 m defines the size of the corner zone
- Wall area and Lateral Pressure rating:
Field (zone 4) inward pressure: 2.25 kPa
Field (zone 4) outward pressure: 2.48 kPa
Corners (zone5) inward pressure: 2.25 kPa
Corners (zone 5) outward pressure: 2.85 kPa

Revision – Date: 30 September 2013 Specification-0351 Structural Pre-Engineering Building – Page 4/8
Sanofi Factory Project

4.3 Earthquake Load

Applicable seismic loads and combinations are to be in accordance with the TCVN standard and the
building location.

4.4 Temporary Load

Loads arising from the placement of temporary floor and wall props, steelwork erection bracing,
falsework and formwork, earthmoving plant and machinery and the like, must be allowed for,
calculated and detailed by the Tenderers on the Construction phase so as not to overstress or cause
failure of any ‘as-designed’ structural elements and members.

4.5 Geometric Imperfection

Geometric imperfections of structure need to be considered in steel structure design in each
horizontal direction following the used standards.

5. DEFLECTION LIMITS
Due to the different building area functions, façade cladding and brittle ceiling materials there are
strict guidelines on allowable deflections under the serviceability dead, live, wind & seismic load
combinations. The limiting SLS criteria are as follows:

Lateral deflection (wind)

Overall deflection: < height/240
Storey drift: < storey height/240

Revision – Date: 30 September 2013 Specification-0351 Structural Pre-Engineering Building – Page 5/8
Sanofi Factory Project

Lateral deflection (seismic)

Overall deflection: < height/500
Storey drift: < storey height/500

Vertical deflection of Mezzanine floor due to gravity load

Total deflection (DL+LL) < span/240
Live load deflection < span/360
Incremental deflection after finishes < span/500 or 20 mm,
application of whichever is lesser

Vertical deflection of Roof without ceiling

Total deflection (DL+LL) < span/120
Live load deflection < span/180

Vertical deflection of Roof with non-plaster ceiling

Total deflection (DL+LL) < span/180
Live load/Wind load deflection < span/240 or 50 mm,
application of whichever is lesser

Vertical deflection of Roof with plaster ceiling

Total deflection (DL+LL) < span/240
Live load/Wind load deflection < span/360 or 50 mm,
application of whichever is lesser

Horizontal deflection of Metal panel, Grit, Wind column

Wind load deflection < span/120

6. STEELWORK PROTECTIVE COATING/PAINTING

Structural Steel protective coating & painting need to give a life to first maintenance of 10 years taking
into consideration climatic conditions on site and exposure of the steelworks.

Structural Steel finishes could be as follows:

 Hot dip galvanized 140 micron to BS EN(ISO) 1461:1999.
 Blast clean to SA 2.5 of BS7079 PtA1
 Primer: zinc epoxy resin 75 micron DFT
 Barrier: 2-pack epoxy Micaceous Iron Oxide 75 micro DFT
 Undercoat: Silicone Alkyd Enamel 35 micro DFT
 Finish: Silicone Alkyd Enamel 35 micro DFT
OR
 Hot dip galvanized 140 micron to BS EN(ISO) 1461:1999.
 ETCH primer
 2 pack high solid epoxy 150 micron DFT

Tenderers can propose alternative solutions of steelwork protective. This must be submitted and
noted clearly in Tenderers bid document. Tenderers are required to submit both a complying and non-
complying tender return bid.
