“I Will Be Your Father”

I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord
Almighty.
2 Corinthians 6:18

My mom was just sixteen and my dad was seventeen when I was born; and by the
time my mom turned 21, she has four children. Raising four children is not an easy task. And
what made the matter even more crucial was when my mom found out that my dad was into
drugs and alcohol. Daddy would come home fully drunk and troubled the family, fights and
arguments were his daily routine. The environment my father created at home made mom’s
spiritual journey weak and as result, mom no longer knew church. As we witnessed our
friends’ fathers, spending happy moments together with their families, we long to taste that
experience; but our desire was left into despair when our father died of overdose.

It was hard for mom to raise us and provide our basic needs, so the only way possible
to make the end meets, is for her to find the open arms that are willing to hold us as their
own. So she did and married to our step-father; initially everything went well and we even
had a baby sister. We thought that God had answered our prayers and had provided for us a
Father until the day came when our step-father left us. Seeing what had happened at home
made me to think if God still cares. I wondered whether He’s watching or not. Then I prayed
and asked Him to talk to me as a sign to know that He’s still there and He will take care of
everything but there was no voice. I even asked Him to touch me for once as a sign to know
that He will take care but in vain I waited, there was no touch. In a dark moment like this, are
we left into despair without divine aid? I asked with tears in my eyes. I prayed for hours and
hours to hear what God will say, then I finally decided to pray for one last time, if God
answers then I’ll trust Him if no then I’ll be gone believing in no God any more. But this time
I said to myself I’ll be praying and when I’m done, I’ll open the Bible and the first verse my
eyes landed, that will be God’s answer to me. So I did and I prayed and I opened my Bible
and the first verse I saw was 2 corinthians 6:18, “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be
My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” Relieved from the storm of confusion and
doubt when I saw this verse, and I rose up with the assurance that my God will be my father.

From that moment on, I began to pray for mom so she could learn to trust in God.
And by the end of that year, we conducted a revival meeting at our home church and I told
them what had happened and how God answered my prayers. And by the end of the meeting I
made an appeal for baptism and the first person who stood up was my mom. She was
Baptized and now an active member of the church supporting me in my ministry.

Have you ever had a dark cloud in your life? perhaps you may be facing financial
crisis or your children are running after the world, your father into alcohol or drugs, may be
pressured by loans and bills or anything that made you to question the goodness of God.
Whether He cares or not? Every journey of Life has a shadow of darkness that intents to
dispel the goodness of God, but His word has been my answer. Today, if you are going
through a desperate moment, turn to His word and claim His promises. In His time He makes
all things beautiful.

Lord, we thank you for life and everything that comes alone with it. Help us to trust and rely
upon you, to take you word at Your word. And when it’s all said and done to glorify Your
name. Amen
