Stressomorphic : Don't Sweat The Small Things

Written by: Ghislane De Castro

Life is like riding a huge roller coaster. A not so exciting journey that is full of twists and

turns and even ups and downs. Sometimes, in this journey, some unexpected situations and

events arise, where one is unable to deal with such turns and alone have the energy to face the

ups and downs. It's unbearable. In situations when the downward spiral becomes difficult to

overcome, it seems to linger on and on. The major cause of such distress is the chaotic events in

our life and mostly the mix emotions we, most of the time feel, because of such havoc and fluky

events. Stress is not new to our daily life. It is a complex phenomenon, that can be defined in

many ways because it means different things to different people. It is the wear and tear of

everyday life.

Psychology defined stress as a feeling of strain and pressure and is considered as

psychological pain . It is something that everyone goes through, no matter what age, gender or race

you are. It is the experience of a perceived threat to one’s mental, physical or spiritual well-being,

resulting from a series of physiological responses and adaptations. Human experiences stress or

perceive things as threatening when they do not believe that their resource for coping with obstacle

are enough for what circumstances demands. That's why the amount of potentially stressful
situations are indeed rather high. Everything can make us stress especially if you are a person that

can feel dissatisfied even with your face in the mirror. Furthermore, in the study and research that

was conducted by the American Psychological Association in 2017, there are different sources and

causes of stress such as, job pressure, financial problem, health, relationship, poor nutrition, media

overload, sleep deprivation and many others. As a result, 77% of people regularly experience

physical symptoms such as fatigue, headache, upset stomach, muscle tension, and dizziness. And

there is also 73% of people who regularly experience psychological symptoms such as irritability,

nervousness, lack of energy and frustration. By these, I can metaphorically say that stress can be

considered as mood-eater. This is so cunning because it sneaks up on you while you are unaware.

It bites so tiny so you do not usually notice the loss. It can be numerous in forms and always

lurking around waiting for a chance to grab. Due to this, you need a warrior to win this war and it

is when you choose to do extraordinary things beyond your capacity and accept and alter the

obstacle to your favor. Stress cannot be avoided. It is a natural part of life that will help you to

understand the perception of not giving up much too easily. One will not succeed in doing even

what one is easily capable of, because even the normal faculties will not come into play – like the

goalkeeper if he remained relaxed even at the last minute. Soothe away all the stressful dilemmas
blocking your way especially those situations that are not serious as they seem.

The way someone perceives life can cause stress which is a common problem in modern life.

Stress is a normal quantity of everyday life and there is no way to escape. It is possible to say,

that our life is not easy, sometimes, it can be very difficult. But we should not forget the

fact that everything is changing. So people need to learn how to manage their stress effectively.

Choosing the right attitude instead of immediately getting stress and dissatisfied is very

important and essential. All situations are neutral you should not be upset every time you face

one. Be responsible enough to handle your emotions and stress. You should not be the slave of

the stress. It is you who choose how to behave and what to do not the other way around.
