During the ancient civilization, their political life, economic life and society and culture was
entirely different compared to our generation. Ancient Egypt was one of the world's first
civilizations, it was ruled by great paraohs. The government of ancient Egypt was a
theocratic monarchy as the king ruled by a mandate from the gods, initially was seen as an
intermediary between human beings and the divine, and was supposed to represent the
gods' will through the laws passed and policies approved. Borders were created and
militaries safeguard such territories. The culture is rich and the economy is being controlled
by communist and ancient dynasties. Barter is one of the modes of sale during the ancient
civilization. It also contributed in the society’s economical aspect.

2. Some of the contributions of the ancient civilization are as follows:

1. Hieroglyphics in ancient Egypt
2. Math
3. Arts and Engineering such as Architecture
4. Writing from the Sumerians
5. Sciences such as Medicine, Astrology and Astronomy
6. Philosophy and Democracy
7. Irrigation canals that helped produced the biggest grain producer in the ancient
world, and many more.

There is no doubt that ancient civilizations made significant and important

contributions in all fields of life for humankind especially for our Asian identity. These
contributions allowed asians to develop advanced mathematical skills and function better
in their daily lives; thus societies managed to make big leaps in their economic and
political development, as well as cultural production and their religion, that
simultaneously leaving a legacy in evolutionary history for future generations.

3. The growth and diversification of the Asian population in recent years from the ancient
civilization has been phenominal. The contributions that I found the most useful are
Mathematics, Medicine and Writing. Asians, especially Chinese, are known for being good in
Mathematics. We are able to adapt these good contributions that helped us in our eveyday life.
For Medicine, it is a vital contributions that helped millions of asians to save their lives and
others. Also, being a doctor is a prestigious title in the community. Lastly, writing gave all people
the chance to record our history and express ourselves to others.

4. Our lives will be in chaos and entirely different if those contributions/legacies were not
introduced or invented. There are no Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, Writers, Teachers, Architects
and other professions that will help to hone the world to become a better place for future
generations. War will also resurface because people tends to fight if there are
misunderstandings rather than solve it in a diplomatic manner. Many lives will be lost if we didn’t
have any of these contributions today.

5. I could show my appreciation to the Asians who made impact to the world by learning and
understanding the history of our ancestors and share it to others. In this way, we could create a
community that will help us maintain, preserve and practice such contributions to keep it for the
future generations to come. Giving respect by doing good and helping others can also
contribute to the betterment of these contributions.

6. It is important to understand our own culture and know our identity as Asians because it will
help us to develop our skills and talents and to know the source of everything. We will further
understand that we should not compare our culture to others because every culture has their
own strength and qualities. Moreover, we should also embrace our physical appearance, values
and traditions rather than being embarrassed and thinking that we are inferior to others.

The issue of the role of culture in a sustainable built environment is becoming more
important due to the growing impact of the environment in achieving society’s sustainable
development. Society faces environmental challenges, including climate change and urban
population growth and responding to these interconnected challenges is at the centre of
society’s concerns for its future. Sustainable development is an integral part of the society and
culture it affects all aspects of operations in the community and the lives of the future
generations. We should start working together now in order to provide a sustainable and better
future ahead of us and preserve our culture and all of the legacies that our ancestors left us
with.
