Superintendent John Costello

Southwestern High School

1105 Maple Street
Hazel Green, Wisconsin 53811

Dear Mr. Costello:

I am applying for the Pathways Program teaching position at Southwestern High School with the
very greatest of interests. I recently completed my student teaching at Southwestern High
School.

As of May 2018, I graduated from Loras College with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Secondary
All-Social Sciences, History and a minor in International Studies. I currently hold an
accompanying Type-09 teaching certificate for All Social Sciences with endorsements to
teach American Government, World History and Sociology. I have based my
professional preparation for the teaching career by being in the Southwestern community
and school for an extended period of time compared to other prospective teachers. My
own public education in Goose Lake, Iowa, I have drawn similarities between my own
community and the Hazel Green community. It is where everyone knows everyone, class
sizes are smaller and everyone you meet is courteous. I find myself in the position to take
on a teaching career to make a positive impact on the students I teach.

I have come across the opportunity by my own experiences with Tom Koeller, Athletic Director,
and Social Studies teacher, in the Southwestern High School which has led me to this
opportunity. Furthermore, my experiences in St. Mark’s Youth Enrichment Program has
exposed me to a variety of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. Likewise, these
experiences have allowed me to continual work on my professionalism, leadership skills
and poise. This is a non-stop learning process that will never end during my career.

My experience in the Loras College education program, St. Mark’s Youth Enrichment Program
and the previous experiences had in the Southwestern Community has allowed me to
expand upon my goals for students to succeed. Using differentiated instruction to
incorporate meaningful lessons for each individual learner was found to be advantageous.
From this, I can gauge individual growth and progress over the course of time to adapt
my own teaching.

I would be grateful to have the chance to be a part of the Hazel Green community and
Southwestern School District. With the tools at my disposal and experiences had. I am
seeking to make the most for each students’ potential. I would be grateful to join the
Southwestern team. If any questions arise I will happily answer them. Thank you for your
time, and consideration.

Sincerely,
Ethan R. Krogman
