About The Institution of Engineers (India)


The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest
multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15
engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform
for sharing professional interest. IEI has membership strength
of above 0.8 million. Established in 1920, with its headquarter at
8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata-700020, IEI has served the engineering
fraternity close to a century. During this period of time, IEI has
been inextricably linked with the history of modern-day
engineering.
In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the
only professional body in India which has been accorded this
honour. Today, its quest for professional excellence has given it
a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant
organization across the globe. It provides a vast array of technical,
professional and supporting services to the Government,
Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity, operating
through its 123 Centres located across the country and 6 overseas
chapters. Besides, IEI has bilateral agreements with about 31
international bodies and membership of another 8 international
bodies of the developed nations across the globe.
Being recognized as a Scientific and Research Organisation
(SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research,
Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, IEI
promotes the cause of research and development by providing
Grant-in-Aid support to undergraduate, post graduate students
and PhD Research Scholars of Engineering Institutions and
Universities.
IEI conducts Section A & B Examinations in various engineering
disciplines (popularly known as AMIE examination), the
successful completion of which is recognized as equivalent to
Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized
Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources
Development, Government of India. Every year large number of
candidates appear for these exams.

IEI in collaboration with Springer regularly publishes peer-
reviewed international journal in five series, namely, Series A,
Series B, Series C, Series D and Series E covering f ifteen
engineering disciplines.
THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA), TELANGANA
STATE CENTRE
The Telangana State Centre has been formed after bifurcation
of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State.
The Telangana State Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India)
has on its rolls more than 8300 Corporate Members covering
f ifteen disciplines of Engineering besides non-corporate
Members to the order of 18660. The Telangana State Centre has
been one of the most active Centres of the Institution of
Engineers (India) which is engaged in successfully translating
the objectives and ideals of IEI into practice. The present
Telangana State Centre is the legacy of erstwhile Hyderabad State
Centre of Nizam’s Hyderabad State.
INTRDUCTION
The Institution of Engineers (India), Telangana State Centre has
been conducting All India Seminars under the aegis of various
Engineering disciplines on subjects of national importance that
need to be addressed by the policy makers.
W ith this objective, the IEI, Telangana State Centre has
contemplated to conduct Two-Day All India Seminar on “Recent
Trends in Automation and Digital Manufacturing“ on 23rd
and 24 th September, 2019 under the aegis of Production
Engineering.
ABOUT THE SEMINAR:
In the era of advancements in technologies, industries around
the globe are tipping toes one to one in advancement, alternate
approach and methods that can match to the high-quality
standards and production by use of Automation and
Digitalization.

This advancements give the industrial sector the flexibility in
meeting the market demands with shorter lead time and high
productivity technologies like 3D printing, advance
manufacturing process, Robotics, Automation, Machine Learning
etc., leading to a successful and innovative resources for the
market. With the high level of computing at lower cost is
facilitating the demand of such innovation in the current Future
shop floors and Factories
With the above theme Telangana State Centre of the Institution
of Engineers (India), is organizing All India Seminar “Recent
trends in Automation & Digital Manufacturing” as the main
theme.

and eff icient utilization of resources available in long
production runs, mass production
• How to incorporate the manufacturing and organising
activities into a one continuous operation

It is proposed to discuss in the two-day All India Seminar on
Two-Day Seminar on “ Recent Trends in Automation & Digital
Manufacturing with the following Sub-Themes related to the
above topics such as :
• Recent trends in Lean, Agile and Advanced Automation
• Robotics and Machine Learning
• Digital Manufacturing
• Micro Fabrication and Machining
• Additive Manufacturing
OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR
The main objective of the Seminar is to have a common platform
for the experts to discuss and deliberate on the issues related
to the topic. Recommendations of the above Seminar will be
circulated to the concerned implementing agencies.
The concerned engineers and scientists and the budding
engineers will be able to gain knowledge on various aspects of
Manufacturing Industry in general and new economic options
available for practical implementation at various levels.
METHODOLOGY:
The Seminar is proposed to be organized in five technical
sessions besides Inaugural and Valedictory Functions. The
Sessions will be devoted on the theme topics for delivering
Invited Talks by experts, interaction of participants with the
experts and open discussions.
VENUE: The Seminar will be held at the Institution of Engineers
(India), Telangana State Centre, V isvesvaraya Bhavan,
Khairatabad, Hyderabad.
INVITED SPEAKERS: It is the endeavor of the Organizing
Committee to invite professionals from Manufacturing Industries,
Space, Defence, Educational Institutions and Government
Departments.

CALL FOR PAPERS: Technical Papers are invited on the theme /
Sub-Themes of the Seminar.
Each Technical paper contributed by an author may not exceed
5000 words, with relevant tablesand figures (each table / figures
shall be equivalent to 500 words) in MS Word.
Last date for receipt of full text of paper with soft copy by email
is 10th September 2019.
