Section 1: God

At the underlying infinite dimension of eternity

In the first and underlying dimensions of eternity, God was revealed as One God, One
Person. The Eternal God of the Bible has always existed and will continue to exist in the future. In
our desire to make the existence of God real for our children we may also consider how vital it is
to make God real for ourselves and our adult friends. The author of the fourth gospel and the
epistles of John made clear statements: “No one has ever seen God” (John 1:18; I John 4:12).
There is no exception, except in the experience of Jesus Christ himself. The God of Judeo-Christian
Scripture is an invisible Deity who made His voice audible on several occasions in both Old and
New Testament times. Our omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God, however, cannot be
visually seen.
There is only one true God. In the Old Testament, God the Father is most prominent
although the Christ and the Holy Spirit are clearly revealed. In the New Testament, the Father is
further revealed and His unique relationship with the elect is furthered revealed. God Exist, and
that He revealed Himself in different ways. The universe with its vastness and complexity gives
testimony to God and His glory. God has also revealed Himself through the spirit, or mind, of
humanity. All societies have a certain moral code built into them in which stealing, lying, murder,
and such are universally condemned. Humanity's sense of right and wrong testifies to God's
existence. God also has revealed Himself through the written Word, the Scriptures. The Bible is
God's revelation of Himself to humankind. God has revealed Himself to the human race in many
way. Each of these methods testifies to his existence. Humanity has no excuse whatsoever for
rejecting him.
God is invisible. Jesus Christ is the only One who has seen the Father. John records the
words of Jesus, the second person of the Trinity: “…not that anyone has seen the Father except
He who is from God: he has seen the Father.” Jesus Christ identifies himself as “He who is from
God”. God revealed Himself in the Bible as One, One Person, Invisible. There are many arguments
that theists use to demonstrate the existence of God.
God has 14 names referring to His singularity. All through scripture we are commanded
to praise the NAME of the Lord. In Biblical times a man just wasn’t given a name to keep from
confusing him with someone else. Your name expressed the kind of person you were or were
hoped to become. In the case of God, He gives himself names that are extensions of Himself. The
name reveals his nature and His character. God’s name, throne and mercy coexisted in eternity
with God. The Father has all the attributes of the Godhead which is shared equally by the Holy
Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Bible also revealed that God is a soul. We obtain the word "soul" from the Hebrew
word nephesh. When we speak of His soul, we speak concerning His complete being, self,
essence, or His totality. I think we should be wary of thinking of God has having a soul. Though
we were made in His image, we need to be careful not to think of God as being like man. We are
warned against this in several scriptures. God is so far above man that we can only dimly
understand Him even with the biblical revelation of Him. We must resist the temptation to
recreate God in our image.
The Bible teaches that God is spirit. A spirit, by definition, is invisible. It does not have any
physical form. God, therefore, has no physical form. This is one of the reasons that the Lord did
not allow idols of him to be made. How God can exist as a spirit without any sort of body is a
divine mystery.
Humans have no free will. Free will makes man his own savior and his own god. In
reflecting upon the attributes of the Eternal God, every response becomes very personal. The
gifted Christian vocal artist, Chris Tomlin, stated, “God is a mystery, beyond our comprehension.”
The lyrics of this song reflect his personal relationship with the God of Eternity:
You are the everlasting God.
The everlasting God.
You do not faint.
You won't grow weary.
Humans measure nearly everything according to a specified time. Yet we yearn for our lives and
our relationships to last forever. When we choose to have a relationship with Jesus Christ, God
gives us an eternal promise that extends beyond the boundaries of time...an everlasting life.
(John 3:16).
