E-waste stands for electronic waste, electronic waste refers to unusable, broken or
obsolete electronic devices. Some very common examples of electronic waste are old
televisions, old CRT monitors and fax machines.
EXPLAINATION:
1.The companies who manufacture the IT equipment can be responsible for recycling of
the obsolete, old and broken IT equipment. Many components which are used in a IT
device (whether old or new) can be very valuable and resourceful for the manufacturers
of those equipment, such as the random access memory or a hard drive which are
relatively not cheap to manufacture or to sell. This can save the companies a lot of
money and can also help to reduce the e-waste. Companies should arrange these
facilities for the customers to trade in there old devices for the new one and as a
responsible human being it is our duty too to hand on our old IT equipment to these
companies instead of throwing them in the garbage or just disposing them off anywhere
as it has now become a huge health concern as well. Companies should arrange
deposit points in which all these equipment can be either sold or can be traded. It is also
very important to make sure that all the data is erased from the particular equipment to
decrease the risk of privacy invasion. Companies and manufacturers can paly a vital
role in reducing e-waste, for example Apple stores through out the world are accepting
any old phones of their own brand in order to trade it with a new one which is indeed
beneficial for the company and the environment.
2.Goverment can also play a vital role in the recycling of the e-waste by coming with
more convenient ways of recycling all these equipment. Specific recycling bins should
be made in order to dispose off these items, IT equipment also contains many valuable
materials such as gold, silver, platinum and copper which can be recycled and reused.
Government should make proper organizations to look after this method and also come
up with ways of recycling these sort of item and there is no doubt that all of these
equipment can be recycled in one way or another. ECO-ATMS which are used to
recycle broken, outdated or even new phones, tablets and mp3 players should be made
common. Government however should also encourage the recycling of e-waste.
