Uses and Benefits

Nurokind Tablet 500mcg is used in the treatment of Vitamin B12 deficiency as a dietary
supplement especially to treat Pernicious anemia and also helps to regulate vital body functions
such as blood formation, cell multiplication, and protein synthesis. However, the uses mentioned
here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used
upon doctor’s discretion.

Composition

The active ingredient of Nurokind Tablet 500mcg is Mecobalamin (also known as

Methylcobalamin) 500mcg.

Mechanism of Action of Methylcobalamin

Mecobalamin helps in the production of blood cells in the bone marrow.

Contraindications and Caution

Patients with following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care
professionals before using Nurokind Tablet 500mcg:

 Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredient used in the Nurokind tablet 500mcg such as
Mecobalamin, Cobal, and Cobalamine derivatives

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of this tablet. It is generally
well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally
mild and may include:

 Anorexia
  Nausea
 Vomiting
 Diarrhea

How to Use

Do not exceed the dosage prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole, immediately after
opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break/cut/chew the tablet.
Avoid missing a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next
dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Do not swallow two doses at the
same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take the tablet with or without food.
Dosage as recommended by your doctor or follow the instructions given on the prescription.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, look out for
any new symptoms. If you observe any, promptly seek medical advice or report it to the nearby
poison control center

Warnings and Precautions

Take Nurokind tablet 500mcg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or
complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:
Pregnancy:

Do not take the tablet without doctors advise – because it is unknown whether this drug may
harm a fetus or not.
Lactation:

No data available. Since this drug is noted to pass into breast milk, consider talking to your
doctor before taking the tablet.
Drug Interactions:

Use of Neomycin, Aminosalicylic acid, H2-antagonists, Omeprazole and Colchicine along with
Nurokind tablet may reduce the absorption rate of Mecobalamin through GI tract.
Serum concentration levels may get decreased by the use of oral contraceptives.
Consider the above while performing a blood test or checking assays for blood concentration.
Precautions

 Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.

 Store at room temperature protected from heat and moisture.
 Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
 Do not use the tablet if the tablet strip is torn or the tablet is broken.

FDA Pregnancy Category

Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are
no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the
drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

What is mecobalamin for:

It is used to prevent and treat low vitamin B12. Lack of vitamin B12 may cause anemia and
damage to the nerves. It is used to treat diabetic neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy.

How does mecobalamin work:

It is an essential nutrient that helps the body make healthy red blood and nerve cells.

How should mecobalamin be used:

Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach.

Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, skin rash, hot flushes

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip
the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra
doses.

What precautions should I take when taking mecobalamin :

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs.

When do I need to seek medical help

Seek help if you have signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest
tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips,
tongue, or throat. Swelling, warmth, or pain in the leg or arm. Talk to your doctor if you have
very loose stools (diarrhea), are feeling very tired or weak, have a rash.

Can I take mecobalamin with other medicines:

Use with neomycin, aminosalicylic acid, cimetidine and cochicine will decrease absorption.
Inform doctor about all other drugs you are taking including herbals.

Are there any food restrictions

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue with your normal diet.

How do I store mecobalamin :

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Medicines must not be used past the
expiry date.

Pregnancy Category

Category A : Adequate and well-controlled human studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the
fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters).
