Data management of Askari bank limited

How to manage a large amount of data is a big problem for every organization. Any managerial
decision is made on the quick access and availability of information needed by the managers. So
in the case of askari bank limited (ABL) is also use management to manage their big and large
data. Their data is stored in databases on computers as files. These databases are;

 Accounting database
 Customer database
 Credit database
 Employee database

There are basically two types of managements to handle data in ABL

1. File based management system (FBMS)

In this type of management data is physically organize and handle into files. These type of file
recording process is linked with special application programs that are also used in ABL efficiently.

There is also available a facility to share such files with the help of application programs. These
files are created on computer for the purpose of recording and reference and this process is donr
manually but these files are not manually signed. In FBMS some of the following files are made;

 Credit files
 Legal files
 Correspondent files
 Personal & professional record
 Legal securities
2. Data base management system (DBMS)

A sum and collection of software that gives us easy and flexible approach to access our data and
also help to organize data in different files on computer. All information is recorded in the central
database and only one pregame is required. Therefor whenever a customer required any
information about loan, savings or checking their account all information available intently without
wasting a single minute. In ABL this system (DBMS) is present but not fully implemented. In
ABL database management is used as a reference and for making of software copies.
Credit database that are manually stored in database on computes for examples include;

Name

Location

Approval authority of credit

Expiry date etc.

Hardware/ software resources of ABL

1. Hardware resources

All physical and tangible devices that are used in any information system and its processes are
called hardware devices. Hardware devices include

Machines (computers)

And data storage media.

These are tangible and physical components on which data and information is recorded from piece
of paper to disks (magnetic disk). ABL uses following hardware in their information system

IBM compatible computers are used in askari bank limited as client computers.

2. Software resources

The software resources of askari bank limited include “information processing instruction”. it
consist of not only Operating instruction (computer program), this program control hardware
components of computer, but also information processing instructions that works like procedures
and methods according to the need and wants of people.

These programs can be divided into

 System software
 Application software
i. System software

System software is a kind of operating software, ABL use this software to manage and control the
basic operations of computers. In ABL SQL Server 2000 is using for database server and Window
2000 For Normal Server/Clients, as system software.

There are also some specific system software in ABL like device drivers, operating systems,
assemblers, utilities, compilers and programming tools.
ii. Application software

It includes client/user-oriented programs. Application software includes software packages and


tools that are needed by user’s task for example; Word processing, billing, accounts receivable,
payroll

There are further two sub types of application software

 General-purpose application software


 special- purpose application software
A. General-purpose application software

These type of software includes such tools and programs that are required and beneficial for
employees and workers for example word processing sheets and presentation graphics. The
companies purchased such general-purpose software externally and after purchasing they develop
these software internally.

B. Special- purpose application software

Software used in ATM and payroll are called special-purpose application software because these
software have been developed and created for some specific operations. These type of software
are used by a specific and limited number of workers. ABL is currently using the following
application software (general & specific both);

 Microsoft access
 Microsoft excel
 Microsoft word
 SQL 2000

Backend database server

For all databases, SQL 2000 is currently used as backend database server in ABL.
