INTRODUCCIÓN
Durante años los ejercicios de
estiramientos han sido una
práctica obligada en casi
cualquier momento, tanto antes
como después de un
entrenamiento, así como un
modo de prevenir lesiones y
mejorar la “flexibilidad”
articular y la elasticidad de los
músculos
(Alter, 2004; Anderson, 1984; Baechle & Earle, 2007).

acuerdo con que todos los tipos
de estiramientos logran los
beneficios que se han
pregonado tradicionalmente,
especialmente los relacionados
con la mejora del dolor y la
prevención de lesiones.

sujetos que realizaban ejercicios de estiramientos del
grupo muscular entrenado entre series podían alcanzar
menos repeticiones que los que no.

Estiramientos y lesiones
• En general, se observó que la actividad física sirve
para reducir eficazmente las lesiones deportivas. El
estiramiento no demostrado ningún efecto
beneficioso, mientras que varios programas de
exposición, formación, propiocepción y entrenamiento
de la fuerza, en ese orden, mostraron una tendencia
hacia el aumento de efecto. El entrenamiento de
fuerza reduce las lesiones deportivas a menos de un
tercio.

ENTONCES ¿EL EFECTO ESTÁ DONDE?
Las mejoras en ROM durante los diferentes tipos de estiramientos pueden deberse a:
Teoría sensorial: Incremento de la tolerancia al estiramiento. Es decir, que la
unidad músculo-tendón podría tolerar más tensión pasiva después de la
intervención, pero sin un cambio de tensión para una longitud determinada. Esto
podría suceder debido a diferentes cambios en el sistema nervioso.
Teoría mecánica: Reducción de la resistencia articular al estiramiento como
cambios en las propiedades de la unidad músculo-tendinosa (ejemplo reducción
del stiffness de los tejidos) o la geometría (por ejemplo el incremento de la
longitud del fascículo muscular…).
