Course Description: An introduction to the microbial world. It focuses on the major groups of microorganisms. Their vital functions in our environment, their
growth, multiplication and distribution in nature, and how they are studied in the laboratory .

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. Create timeline documentation of the historical foundations of microbiology.


2. Show understanding through performing laboratory of the basic concepts in microbiology.
3. Identify the distinguishing structural characteristics of the various groups of microorganisms.
4. Explain the role of microbes in the field of medicine, agriculture, industry, soil fertility and water supplies.
5. Expound how microorganisms may contribute solutions to some of the environmental pollutants and adequate food supply.
6. Demonstrate how microorganisms are being studied in the laboratory.
7. Describe the general biochemical processes involved in the use of microorganisms.
8. Design a full blown experimental research in Microbiology.
