5. Gas Laws
Gas laws describe the properties of gases. There are many types of gas
laws that are present in everyday life. Some examples are:
✘ Boyle’s law - The volume of a given mass of a gas varies inversely
with with the pressure when the temperature is constant.
✗ Opening a can of pop
✘ Charles’ Law - The volume of a given mass of a gas varies directly
with the absolute temperature of the gas when pressure is kept
constant.
✗ Basketball in cold weather

4. Radiation
Everyday, we are exposed to small amounts of radiation. This
is called background radiation. Background radiation we are
exposed to often:
✘ Rocks and soil
✘ Living things

There are benefits of radiation though, like in medicine.
✘ Cancer
✘ X-Rays

3. pH
pH measures how acidic or basic a solution is. Acidic solutions
have a lower pH, and basic solutions have a higher one. This
can be found on a pH scale. pH in everyday life:
✘ Water has a neutral pH of 7.
✘ The pH of our skin is about 5.5
✘ Soaps and cleaners are more alkaline
✘ Fruits are acidic
