Autobiography

Influences: My mother has always been the most influential person in my life. To grow up

watching her parent and raise a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome,

OCD, and ADHD, as well as care for me has never ceased to blow me away. Her strength and

kindness are truly limitless, and she inspires me to push myself.

My elementary school SAGE teacher inspired me to be a teacher because of the way he

ran his classroom. He opened my eyes to the impact teachers can have on students. From there, I

was more observant, and found more reasons for wanting to be a teacher. I want to be a person in

a child’s life who they feel safe around, who they feel they can trust and talk to about their ideas.

I want my students to be excited to come to class because they know their time and their ideas

are valued there, and that they will always be treated with respect.

Education: From pre-k through the beginning of 4th grade, I went to school in Portland, Oregon.

I went to Prince of Peace Pre-K, and Rock Creek Elementary school. My dad got a job offer that

moved us to Arizona. I entered Legend Springs Elementary about 2 months into their academic

year.

I came into the school year too late to start the gifted SAGE program in 4th grade, so the

next year in 5th grade I got to be moved into it. The teacher taught ELA and Math, and he is one

of the reasons I want to be a teacher now. I did not know I seriously wanted to be a teacher for a

long time, but the thought had always been there in the back of my mind. The environment that

teacher created made me feel comfortable in the classroom, something I had not really noticed

before then. It felt like a big group of friends, peers that all got along, not just classmates.
For 7th and 8th grade, I attended Hillcrest Middle school. After that, I attended Sandra

Day O’Connor High School, where I joined the marching band. Our band director created an

atmosphere of compassion and encouragement that I want to bring into my future classroom.

Future: I want to establish my teaching style and be an outlet and a safe place for my students

and those around them. I always want to be able to help and to make people laugh, because it is

what I most love to do. I want to be able to remind people that they are worthy of time and

attention and show them that what they feel and think is valuable. I want to be the person that is

always encouraging my students and telling them that they are capable and that what they are

doing is worth their time, and that I believe in them. I want to be this for others, because I know

how much it means to me when I have people like that in my life.
