(AUTONOMOUS)
M.TECH. I-SEMESTER, I-MID (SVEC-16) TERM EXAMINATIONS, OCTOBER – 2018
SPECIALIZATION: ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEMS
SUBJECT: POWER SYSTEM SECURITY AND STATE ESTIMATION (16MT10704)
Date: 25.10.2018 (AN) Time: 2 Hrs Max. Marks: 40

All questions carry equal marks.
1 a) Form bus admittance matrix for the given power system network 5M CO3
using suitable method.

b) Analyze and derive the necessary expression for tap changing 5M CO2
transformer with the help of bus admittance matrix.
2 a) Write step-by-step algorithm for formation of Zbus for adding a link 6M CO1
to the partial network.
b) Analyze the following scenarios, when adding a link element in the 4M CO2
power system network for the formation of Zbus.
ii) The element is connected to reference bus.
3 a) Specify the significance of symmetrical components in a three phase 3M CO1
system.
b) The line to ground voltages of a three phase system are measured 3M CO3
on a high voltage side of a transformer are Va=100KV, Vb=33KV,
Vc=38KV. The voltage of phase a leads voltage of phase b by 100o,
and lags phase c voltage by 176.5o. Compute the symmetrical
component of voltages for the system.
c) Distinguish between rotating and stationary elements of power 4M CO1
system.
4 A synchronous generator and a synchronous motor are connected 10M CO3
through transmission line as shown in the figure below.

## G,M: 25MVA, 11KV, X1=X2=20%, X0=5%

T1: 25 MVA, 11KV/66KV, X1=X2=10%, X0=2%
T2: 25 MVA, 66KV/11KV, X1=X2=10%, X0=3%, Xn=1%
Transmission Line: X1=X2=5%, X0=2%
Draw the sequence networks and formulate sequence impedance
matrices for the given system.
5 a) Derive the expression for fault current in a balanced three phase 7M CO1
fault occurred on a balanced three phase power system using
matrix notation. Also derive the expressions for:
i) Voltage at all buses in the system
ii) Current flowing between any two buses after fault
b) Investigate how the power system security is assessed through 3M CO4
network matrices.
