1. Check if the correct meter disc according to the incoming water hardness is
mounted on the softener. If not the correct meter disc is mounted replace it as
described under 1.1.

1.1 Exchange meter disc (see fig. 1)

1. Remove screws of transparent cover at top of softener head (detail A)

2. Remove transparent cover.
3. Remove balance piston (1) and spring (2).
4. Carefully remove meter disc (3) to ensure all surrounding parts keep their
functional position.
5. Use a small screw driver to slightly push aside the locking device (detail B),
and insert required meter disc (3).
6. Refit spring (2) and balance piston (1).
7. Refit transparent cover and tighten screws.

2. Testing procedures during operation

Use the Grundfos test kit for SES – 195 (No. 95702376)

2.1 Checking the water hardness

A properly functioning water softener is crucial for the efficiency and longevity
of the Selcoperm system. High levels of calcium carbonate in the electrolyte
will lead to a visible precipitation on the electrodes of electrolyser cell.

Water Hardness test procedure

1. Take a sample of water from soft water sample valve.

2. Fill the plastic sample container to the 20 ml mark.

3. Add two “HARDNESS Yes/No” tablets to the sample,

replace the lid and shake until the tablets are dissolved.

Result:

Sample turns green: Water is soft.

Sample turns red: Water softener requires regeneration or resin bead replacement.

2.2 Specific gravity (SG) of electrolyte

The SG is the specific gravity of the electrolyte entering the electrolyser.

SG test procedure
1. Flush a clean and dry measuring vessel (capacity at least 500 ml) with
electrolyte using electrolyte sample valve.
2. Fill the measuring vessel with a large sample of approximately
500 ml (to ensure an accurate reading) using electrolyte sample
valve.
3. Fill the 100 ml measuring cylinder with the sample.
4. Place the hydrometer in the measuring cylinder and take the
reading.
5. Required SG reading see section 3.2 Typical unit set points.

Adjusting the SG
The SG of the electrolyte is controlled by the amount of brine injected into the
softened water. The brine flow is controlled by a digital dosing pump, and the
manufacturers manual should be referenced for specific operation of the pump.
Increasing the volume of brine injected into the softened water will increase the SG,
and restricting the flow will lower the SG.

2.3 Product test

A product test has to be carried out to determine the total production capacity of the
Selcoperm system.

Product test procedure

1. Fill a 2 ml syringe with fresh product from product sample valve.
2. Take a clean 100 ml measuring cylinder and fill half with softened water
from soft water sample valve.
3. Empty syringe into the measuring cylinder.
4. Fill measuring cylinder to the 100 ml mark with softened water from soft
water sample valve.
5. Mix the solution to ensure an accurate dilution.
6. Fill both cells of the total CI test kit to the 10 ml mark with the diluted
sample.
7. Place one cell in the left compartment of the comparator as a blank.
8. Add one “CHLORINE HR” tablet to the other cell and crush the tablet.
9. Add one “ACIDIVYING GP” tablet to the same cell and crush the tablet.
10. Close the cell with a lid and swirl it until the tablets are dissolved.
11. Place this cell into the right compartment of the comparator.
12. Match the two colour fields against indirect daylight and read off the result
as mg/l Cl2.

Product temperature test procedure

1. Take a product sample from the product sample valve.
2. Place the thermometer in the sample and take reading.
– The reading should not exceed 40 °C.

3. Acid cleaning
Warning

Wear protective clothing and goggles and use

a suitable acid Cleaning kit, available from
Grundfos!

Hydrochloric acid used for acid cleaning must

be of high grade, free from fluoride and in the
concentration range of 5 - 7 % by weight!

1. Switch off power supply at switch and isolate system from the mains voltage.
2. Connect hose to product sample valve and run to a suitable discharge point.
3. Open product sample valve to drain the degassing column.

Product sample valve must remain open at all times during the
acid cleaning procedure!

4. Service
In order to ensure a long service life and dosing accuracy, wearing parts such as
diaphragms and valves must be regularly checked for signs of wear. Where
necessary, replace worn parts with original spare parts made from suitable materials.

Should you have any questions, please contact your service partner.

Warning

If the diaphragm leaks or is broken, discharge opening on the

dosing head.

Take suitable precautions to prevent harm to health and damage to

property caused by escaping dosing liquid!

Check daily whether liquid is escaping from the discharge

opening!

4.1 Service system

According to the motor runtime or after a defined period of operation, service
requirements will appear. Service requirements appear regardless of the current
operational state of the pump and do not affect the dosing process.

Motor Time interval

“Service now” 8000 24
⃰ Since the last service system reset
Exercise Selcoperm
Service Selcoperm

The service requirement signals when the replacement of wearing parts is due and
displays the number of the service kit. Press the click wheel to temporarily hide the
service prompt.

When the “Service now” message appears (displayed daily), the pump must be
serviced immediately. To signalise in the “Operation” menu, the symbol
appears in the “Signal/error display” area of the display.

The number of the service kit required is also displayed in the “Info” menu.

For media which result in increased wear, the service interval must be shortened.

4.2 Perform service

Only spare parts and accessories from Grundfos should be used for maintenance.
The usage of non-original spare parts and accessories renders any liability for
resulting damages null and void.

Information about carrying out maintenance can be found in the service kit catalog on
our homepage (www.grundfos.com).

Warning

When dosing dangerous media, observe the corresponding

precautions in the safety data sheets!

Risk of chemical burns!

Wear protective clothing (gloves and goggles) when working on

the dosing head, connections or lines!

Do not allow any chemicals to leak from the pump. Collect and
dispose of all chemicals correctly!

Before any work to the pump, the pump must be in the “Stop”
operational state or be disconnected from the mains. The system
must be pressure less!

Warning

The pump housing must only be opened by personnel authorized

by Grundfos!

Repairs must only be carried out by authorized and qualified

personnel!

Switch off the pump and disconnect it from the voltage supply
before carrying out maintenance work and repairs!

After consulting Grundfos, please send the pump, together with the safety declaration
completed by a specialist, to Grundfos. The safety declaration can be found at the
end of these instructions. It must be copied, completed and attached to the pump.
Exercise Selcoperm

Calibration process – example for DDA 7.5 – 16

1. Fill a measuring beaker with

dosing medium.
Recommended filling volumes:
DDA type 7.5-16 12-10 17-7 30-4
Medium V1 0.3 l 0.5 l 1.0 l 1.5 l
2. Read off and note down the fill
volume V1 (e. g. 300 ml).
3. Place the suction hose in the
measuring beaker.

4. Start the calibration process in

the “Setup > Calibration”
menu.

5. The pump executes 200

dosing strokes and displays
the factory calibration value (e.
g. 125 ml).

6. Remove the suction hose from

the measuring beaker and
check the remaining volume V2
(e.g. 170 ml).

7. From V1 and V2, calculate the

actual dosed volume Vd = V1 –
V2 (e.g. 300 ml – 170 ml = 130
ml).

8. Set and apply Vd in the

calibration menu. – The pump
is calibrated.
