Jovita Fuentes
- a remarkable Filipina artist known for her portrayal of Cio-
cio san in Madame Butterfly by Giac33omo Puccini
- Embahadora de Filipinas a su Madre Patria"
- a founder of the Artists' Guild of the Philippines
- She was an educator of music at the University of the
Philippines Conservatory of Music ,Sta. Isabel College ,and
College of Holy Spirit.

Felipe Padilla de Leon


- a " people's musician "
( some of his Orchestral music: Mariang Makiling ,Overture ,
and Roca Encantadia .

Ernani J. Cuenco
- one of the remarkable singer, composer, film scorer, and
musician in his time

Kamahal, Diligin mo ng Hamog ang Uhaw sa Lupa, and
Nahan, kahit na Magtiis)
Lucio San Pedro
- A master composer known for creatively using folk
idioms in his musical compositions
- His music has this effect of bringing a sense of identity
of the Filipinos
- He produced numerous works like songs, orchestral
compositions, chamber music, and cantatas
- a conductor of three bands namely Peng Kong Grand
Mason Band, The San Pedro Band of Angono, and Banda

Jose Maceda
- His life-long musical career focused on understanding
and popularizing Filipino traditional music
-He wrote some compositions inspired by traditional music
( Ugma-ugma, Pagsamba, Udlot-udlot, Kubing, Agungan,
Ugnayan, Aroding, Ading, Siasid, and Suling -suling)
Lucrecia R. Kasilag
- She reinforces the Filipino's appreciation to music by
fusing Western influences to Philippine ethnic music
- Her other works include Legend of the Sarimanok,
Philippine Scenes, Her Son, Ang Pamana, Jose, Sisa ,Awit

Antonio R. Buenaventura
- He, together with Francisca Reyes Aquino, National
Artist for Dance, researched on and popularized Philippine
folk songs and dances in 1935
- He wrote songs and musical arrangement based on the
folk songs of different ethnic groups in the country
- Included in his works are several marches and
symphonic and orchestral music composition

Ramon Obusan
- Promoted the Philippine ethnic dances and performed
them with respect and authenticity.
- His presentations attempt to demonstrate the ethnic
dances' original routine and music.
- His Ramon Obusan Folklore Group ,through their
performances ,outreach works ,and tours ,inspired many
Filipinos to embrace the Filipino culture.

Alice Reyes
-Her major and most significant contribution in the
Philippine dance is the development of unique Filipino
modern dance idiom

contemporary dance routine

Leonor Orosa Goquingco


- Also known as the "Trailblazzer","Mother of
Philippine Theater Dance ",and " Dean of Filipino

progress of the Philippine dance by developing distinct
productions using balletic folkloric and Asian styles

Lucrecia Reyes- Urtula


- She was the dance director of Bayanihan Philippine
Dance Company for three decades who choreographed

Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero

Honorata "Atang" dela Rama
-at the age of seven, she has already been part of different
Spanish zarzuelas

• Alejandro "Anding" Roces is known for his staunch
contributions to art and country.

• was a famous landscape architect known for lanscaping
plazas, gardens, hotels, playgrounds, commercial centers,
housing projects, parks, etc.

• his architectural structure was a micture of modern and
traditional designs

Larry Alcala
• The National Artist for Visual Arts is editorial cartoonist and
illustrator Larry Alcala.
• Through his works, he has shown the unique trait of the
Filipinos—which is to laugh despite obstacles and
difficulties. Alcala created hundreds of characters, 20 comic
strips, six movies, and two murals in the 56 years he
dedicated to cartooning.

National Artist for Theater


Amelia Lapeña Bonifacio
• Coined as the “Grande Dame of Southeast Asian
Children’s Theater” and “Grand Lady of Philippine Puppet
Theater,” Amelia Lapeña Bonifacio was the chairperson of
the University of the Philippines’ Creative Writing Program.
• And this talented lady also founded a children’s theater and
puppetry troupe based in the said university,
called Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas.
National Artist for Music
Ryan Cayabyab
• The very well-known music composer Ryan Cayabyab got
the Philippine National Artist for Music title.
• Known as Mr. C, he composed numerous musical scores
for award-winning films, operas, musicals, and more. He
also continues to teach music, and even inspired a song
from Cheenee Gonzalez.

Francisco ‘Bobby’ Mañosa
• Francisco ‘Bobby’ Mañosa’s approaches are modern
interpretations of Philippine architectural design and use of
indigenous materials. His style and take has led him to
become well-known and respected locally and
internationally.

Resil Mojares
• Cebuano Resil Mojares has won several National Book
Awards from the Manila Critics Circle.
• Mojares founded the Cebuano Studies Center, a library and
research center dedicated to the Cebu culture and history.

Ramon Muzones
Distinguished for his outstanding works on West Visayan
fiction and because of his intense take on cultivating art
form, Muzones receieved the Gawad CCP award para sa
Sining in 1989.
National Artist for Cinema
Kidlat Tahimik
• Another well-deserving national artist who was chosen
’cause of his take in undermining colonial narratives that
tell epic and localized truths.
• Kidlat Tahimik’s real name is Eric de Guia, and the Filipino
masses calls him the Father of Independent Philippine
Cinema. He received the University of the Philippines’
highest award recognizing achievements in media—the
Gawad Plaridel Award.
