EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The following analysis of the case explains how British Steel Engineering

Steels a huge industrial organization successfully implemented their Health and

Safety Training for their employees. As well as how they used Total Quality

Management principles to establish a training framework to increase the

knowledge and skills of Health and Safety, thereby improving business safety

performance.
INTRODUCTION

British Steel Engineering Steels is committed to Total Quality Management

that creates a culture in addition to providing a set of guiding principles and

policies. In this culture every employee at every level takes responsibility for

meeting the needs of the customer. This also concerns people, not just policies

and procedures when Total Quality Management culture are being establish they

are usually working towards becoming a learning organization which brings people

together to achieve shared objectives; it empowers employees to contribute

effectively to the process of continuous improvement and training is a pre-requisite.

British Steel Engineering Steels is a huge industrial organization in which

it has a potential to be a hazardous working environment because of the

involvement of hot metal, noxious gases and heavy machinery that’s why it is

necessary for them to incorporate Health and Safety training as part of their total

quality management to ensure the safety of their employees and other people

working in that organization. Having a safety working environment gives an

advantage to the organization because this increases employees loyalty and trusts

to the organization because they know that they are already secured in terms of

their Health and Safety.

Focusing on prevention and protection within the organization which

minimizes incidents as well as they can take actions immediately if any accidents
will occur. Having this training for employees helps them understand and ensure

that credible scenarios which could potentially occur will be monitored as well as

it’s a way of preparing themselves for such events. The implementation of Health

and Safety training gives an efficient and effective plan ensuring the safety of the

employees as well as risk prevention which improves the overall safety awareness

across the organization.

Training cycle is an organizational approach to manage the training

process or training program, improve the training and make the learning more

effective. This approach ensures that employees are prepared for their work by

having the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to do their job.

Analysis

Design of
Evaluation
training

Applying Delivery of
learning Training

Delivering the training cycle have five phases which are the following:

Phase one is all about Analysis which is identifying the training needs of senior
managers at BSES , if you don’t address the right issues, or if you fail to identify

actual training needs, then your training will not achieve what you want it to. Phase

two is all about Design of training which is more likely the decision making phase.

Once Training Needs have been identified and a proposal for your training is

agreed, BSES introduced a workshop designed to meet their specific needs and

requirements and also determines what will be taught and how it will be taught.

Phase three is all about the delivery of training in which the training design is made

into training material focusing on facilitative, workshop style that provide

experiential learning with an emphasis on relating learning pragmatically to your

role. Phase four is all about applying learning in which this is the phase that most

people think of as training, the actual performance applying what you have learned.

And lastly phase five is all about evaluation of training to ensure if the process is

working correctly and to identify problems immediately and trainers evaluate the

effectiveness of training.

People in the organization share a healthier and safe working

environment because of the implementation of the Health and Safety training to

their employees. This helps the employees to be aware of every possible scenarios

and incidents that may occur in the organization and for them to be able to take

actions immediately, through this they gain enough knowledge on the Do’s and

Don’ts of the organization. This is not only benefit the employees but as well as

the organization itself.

Individual interest in other courses has increased and many employees

have learned new skills, interest is a powerful motivational process that energizes

learning, guides people and is essential to the organizations success. Through this

training new skills can be acquired by employees and give additional knowledge

to them thus, individuals interest on the training can contribute to a more engaged,

motivated, learning experience for employees.

Aside from the obvious legal and financial benefits to employees,

organization will benefit from better productivity and reduction in business costs,

the organization can also enjoy enhanced satisfaction among employees by

keeping the workplace safe. Through this training employees in a safe work

environment can focus better on their tasks simply because they do not have to

worry as much about their personal safety. This enhanced focus will eventually

lead to better work output and quality as well as the company’s profits will increase.

This training does not only benefit the employees and the organization

but also its customers, as many customers perceive the quality of the product of

service as being of equal (or greater) importance as price. If employees are

motivated and encouraged to do their jobs which leads to better work output and

quality in return to that the organizations customers will receive high quality and

safe products which leads to customer satisfaction, positive feedbacks from the

customer’s that will greatly affect the organization and will benefit again the

company in return.
BSES successfully implement quality health and safety practices in

their organization with the helped of open communication that allows individuals to

be more engaged and understand that what they do matters in the success of this

training program. This also help them understand why decisions are made and

how those decisions impact them specifically in the organization as a whole.

Improving Health and Safety practices and procedures eliminated lost

work time through accidents which also aims to minimize risks and hazards, if this

practices and procedures are performed properly there will be a reduced number

of accidents of employees from the organization which leads to increase in

productivity as well as the organization itself can respond immediately to accidents

and emergency situations because of the information and knowledge they have

learned from this practices. Reduces Costs and Improve Morale as employees are

the greatest assets in every organization that’s why managements are looking for

ways to reduce day-to-day costs without sacrificing quality or service and without

terminating employees because of some accidents or scenarios occurred at work.

Through health and safety training that gives employees information’s and

knowledge on what should they do if certain scenarios will occur. Reducing costs

and improve morale lies in the hand of your employees because they are already

in the site, they already have the knowledge about other people in the company,

the processes, products and services, they know what changes could be made to

improve productivity. You just have to ask them, ask their ideas and listen to their

suggestions and opinions too.

CONCLUSION

Therefore, I conclude that British Steel Engineering Steels successfully

planned and implemented an extremely effective training program that embraced

an important training needs that created a positive change in the organization

regarding Health and Safety. The training helps breakdown a barriers between

managers and employees by empowering employees and encouraging the

continuous shared involvement in Health and Safety management. People are

brought together to achieve shared objectives which leads to success of an

organization.
