TEACHER CAPACITY PROGRAM REPORT 4

Introduction
The teacher capacity development programme is now in the second year, with students at Level
2 semester 1 (L2S1) and students at level 1 semester 1 (L1S1). This report provides an update
of on the progress made in the programme since the last report (Report No. 3).

IMPLEMENTATION FRAMEWORK
The teacher capacity development programme is implemented by three partners, namely
Midlands State University, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and UNICEF. The
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is responsible for the recruitment of students.
UNICEF provides funding for the tuition of the students who are mainly primary and secondary
teachers. Midlands State University provides tuition and learning support through quality
teaching and learning resources which include computer laboratories, internet connectivity,
library resources and e-learning materials to support open and distance learning (ODL).

The programme is offered on Block Release basis during school holidays. The BED Computer
Science is a three year programme (Six semesters) and the PGDE is a two year (4 semesters)
programme. In each semester students take an average of four modules per semester and each
module has 36 hours conduct time.

Implementation modalities
Teaching was conducted at Zvishavane campus in two blocks, that is, December 2015 and
April 2016, for the B.Ed programmes. The Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) block was
conducted at the main campus in Gweru.

RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENT

Results for the semester have been supressed due to none payment of fees.

PROGRAMME EVALUATION/REVIEW

The major challenge for the semester is that students were not able to access their results due
to none payment of fee.

CONCLUSION

The programme is now presented with a serious challenge of funding. This is resulting a
number of challenges for the programme coordinator and the students. Due to lack of funding
students cannot register to enable them to gain access to library and e-learning resources.
Furthermore, students cannot access their results and no new equipment and consumables
required for teaching can be acquired.
