Life is checkered and punctuated with seasons; the
rainy season and the dry seasons if you live I this
part of the hemisphere. winter, spring, summer, and fall if you live in the other hemisphere. Ecclesiastes 3: 1 says there are season and time for everything. There are times we have a surplus in our lives and there are also times we lack and experience scarcity. When many people living in a geographic location experience lack and shortage at the same time, it is called a recession. Recession is simply economic scarcity experienced in a nation over a period. In the Bible, you read words like famine, drought, hunger, starvation, etc indicating that the reality of recession is as historic as humanity. There is a staggering statistic: there are more than seven million people in the world that are too poor to survive. No nation has been immune to the experience of lack and recession; every country experiences it in various forms and degrees. At its core, this book in hour hands is about biblical economics. Each chapter has a story and each story has a lesson or more on how men and women survived and thrived in recession. In this book, I have examined the lives of major characters in other to see how God provides and sustains his people during a recession. In chapter one, we see how God sustained Abram even though he went down to Egypt as against the will of God. The promise God made with Abram was able to sustain Abram and pull him through the period of recession. God still preserved Abram and Sarai in Egypt and also preserved the sanctity of their union because of his covenant and promise to Abram. Chapter two opens up with the story of Isaac and his feminine experience. He would have made the mistake of his father, but God called his attention to stay and look inwards. Here we see three dimensions to prosperity in the life of Isaac and the part obedience to God's instructions played in taking Isaac out of famine. Joseph is the closest type and shadow of Jesus in the old testament, and how he saved the world during a famine is the subject of discussion in chapter three. In this chapter I will re-introduce you to Joseph again will talk about some principles and wisdom from the actions Joseph took to save his generation during a famine. Ruth the grandmother of King David, widow, and daughter-in-law of Naomi left Moab with Naomi and came into prosperity in Bethlehem. Her character of loyal love and commitment contrasts that of Elimelech the husband of Naomi. The story if Ruth is indeed an interesting subject of study. In chapter five I explain to you the law of cause and effect in another dimension. David, the great-grandson of Ruth had to deal with famine because of the sins of the house of Saul. We see how violation of the covenant and unthankfulness can bring upon a recession in our personal lives. In chapter six, we see how Elijah survived famine by living out of the mouth of God by playing by the ear. I made it clear that your provision and supply, most often than not, is tied to a vision or an assignment. God has already commanded a provision for you. Elisha succeeded Elijah and experienced famines. I explained some harsh realities of famine as we see four lepers take a step of faith from famine into abundance even as we see that unbelief can prevent breakthroughs and success. The word of God from the mouth of a prophet is very powerful and comes with rewards. We shall see the different types of prophet rewards and some benefits of prayer before we conclude chapter seven. Two famines occurred during the time of Elisha, thus in chapter eight, from the story of the Shunammite woman I explained the principle of supernatural total restoration. Her encounter with the prophet of God ensured her breakthrough. I also discussed the dynamics of the prophetic ministry and the power of a promise. That adversity reveals our nature is true not just for individuals but also about nations, and that is what we learn in chapter nine by examining the recession during the time of Nehemiah. The famine that occurred brought to the fore the leadership character in Nehemiah. It takes great leadership to bring nations out of recession. In the last two chapters of this book, I tied up the narrative by discussing stewardship and finding and fulfilling your purpose in life. Note that, every resource God commits into your possession will be accounted for and God will increase the portion, or otherwise, depending on how accountable we are. There are dimensions of faithfulness and levels of stewardship which I will show you. God is always intentional with his allocation of financial resources; hence we shall discuss God's kingdom agenda on stewardship. Furthermore, everyone should discover his purpose, live and fulfill it. I have brief biographies of men and women who found their purposes and fulfilled it. Finally, I invite you to join me on this journey, let us go on a walk as we learn how we can thrive in recession and scarcity. After all, we are in this together, aren't we?
