Creating.

Innovating.
Engaging.

Parkland High School Library has been in full swing and focusing on these topics
through Makerspace events, new additions to the collection, and fun activities.
December is sure to be a continuation of these efforts.

The library has a student teacher who will be here until mid-December, and she has
gotten a taste of all the activities and resources available here for students.

In November, the library did a week long raffle with different events to encourage
students to utilize the library and the materials offered. For each activity completed
such as writing a book review, creating something in the Makerspace or following
the library on Instagram (phs_library), students received a raffle ticket to enter for
a prize.

This month, there will be various Makerspace events so be sure to check out the
calendar in the library to see what will be offered!

What’s new in the library?

We recently added a collaboration station available

to students and teachers. A table is set up with five
chairs and a computer at the end so that discussion
can take place on presentations or assignments.
The great thing about this new area is it cost the
library nothing, because resources already in the
library were used to create it.
There is also a wide gamut of new books
available for checkout including romance,
sports, horror, and graphic novel titles. A
reader’s advisory poster was also added to assist
students with selecting books. If one book was
enjoyable, there are other title recommendations
in the collection that might be interesting.

As we bring 2019 to a close, make sure to stop in the library and engage with the
resources available before the holiday break!
