ABSTRACT

QR attendance monitoring system deals with the maintenance of the student’s attendance details.
It is generates the attendance of the student on basis of presence in class. It is maintained on the
daily basis of their attendance. The staffs will be provided with the separate username and QR
Code to make the student’s status. The staffs handling the particular subjects responsible to make
the attendance for all students. Only if the student present on that particular period, the
attendance will be calculated. The students attendance reports based on weekly and consolidate
will be generated.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROBLEM DEFINITION:

This system developed will reduce the manual work and avoid redundant data. By maintaining
the attendance manually, then efficient reports cannot be generated. The system can generate
efficient weekly, consolidate report based on the attendance. As the attendances are maintained
in registers it has been a tough task for admin and staff to maintain for long time. Instead the
software can keep long and retrieve the information when needed.

PROJECT OVERVIEW Attendance Management System basically has two main modules for
proper functioning Admin module is has rights for creating any new entry of faculty and student
details. User has a rights of making daily attendance, generating report. Attendance report can be
taken by given details of student details, date, class.

MODULE DESCRIPTION

The system should be designed in such a way that only authorized people should be allowed to
access some particular modules. The records should be modified by only administrators and no
one else. The user should always be in control of the application and not the vice versa. The user
interface should be consistent so that the user can handle the application with ease and speed.

INTRODUCTION OBJECTIVE: “QR attendance monitoring system” is software developed for

maintaining the attendance of the student on the daily basis in the collage. Here the staffs, who
are handling the subjects, will be responsible to mark the attendance of the students. Each staff
will be given with a separate username and QR Code based on the subject they handle. An
accurate report based on the student attendance is generated here. This system will also help in
evaluating attendance eligibility criteria of a student. Report of the student’s attendance on
weekly and monthly basis is generated

QR code A Quick Response code (QR- code) is a two dimensional bar code designed by Denso
Wave in 1994 in Japan. A QR code is arranged in rows and columns of black and white, and has
been designed to be read by smart phone [1]. QR code can hide large amount of data, numeric
and alphanumeric. Thus, they have become popular all over the world. Moreover, QR codes are
widely used in telecommunication due to increased popularity of smart phones, which typically
contain software that can read QR-code images [2]. A QR-code image comprises a functional
pattern and an encoding region as can be seen in Fig. 1. The patterns included in a QR-code
image are finder, alignment, timing, and separator patterns. Each of these patterns has its own
functionality [6]. 1. Finder pattern: This pattern can be found at the edges of a QR code image.
The finder pattern is a square block that contains that contains a black square. There are three
finder patterns on every QR code image; at the top left, top right, and bottom left. There is not
finder pattern at the bottom right. The primary functionality of the finder pattern is to tell a
scanner or decoder that the image that has been encoded as a QR-code image. No data is stored
in the finder pattern. 2. Alignment pattern:Similar to the finder, there is no data stored in the
alignment pattern; however, it provides information scanner devices to correctly position the data
stored in the encoded data region. The alignment pattern is positioned between encoded data and
is usually in the center of the image. The structure of this pattern consists of a small square with
a tiny dot inside. In addition, the number of alignment patterns can differ for different QR codes.
3. Timing pattern:This pattern lies between two finder patterns. Timing patterns are arranged
both vertically and horizontally. There is a black dot inside each timing pattern. The main
purpose of the timing pattern is to correct the central coordinate for each data cell when any
distortion occurs during decoding of symbols or when an error is found in any cell pitch in the
QR code. No data is stored in the timing pattern. 4. Encoded data:This pattern is located at the
center of the image. Data is stored within this pattern. In addition, when data is inserted, it is
converted to binary data. This binary data is converted back to the normal text when the image is
decoded by a scanner [7].

Review of Literature

This section presents the conceptual and related literature from both foreign and local

topic grounded with the current study. The coherence and consistency of this review of related
literature illustrated from empirical studies. Propagation of QR Code System Application These
past few years, the use of technology in has grown rapidly faster than we could ever
imagine. Almost every year, new technological ideas emerged that are smarter, innovative,
and more affordabl (Lamey, 2018).

With all these technological resources that we have or available, is there any way we can utilize
them as part of the educational strategies? In the educational world, our students have embraced
this idea since they were little. It can be said that students nowadays are digital natives where
they are already exposed to state-of-the-art technology such as computers, video games, and
internet, while teachers are considered digital immigrants since they were not born into the
digital aspect of the new technology (Santisteban, 2017).

QR codes are two-dimensional matrix barcodes used to provide easy access to digital
information through a smartphone. Last decade witnessed a steady growth in commercial and
business-oriented usage of these QR codes with the advent of smart and web-capable
mobile phones (Shettar and Indrayani,2016).

Indrayani, (2014) explores the extent of the effectiveness and the efficiency of the
use of biometric systems on the preparation of national database based on the single-KTP
number (NIK) in Bandung using qualitative descriptive analysis technique. The
effectiveness of the use of biometric systems in the process of e-KTP in Bandung is
effectively categorized based on quality systems indicators such as Relevancy, Capacity,
Timeliness, Accessibility, Flexibility, Accuracy, Reliability, Security, Economy and
Simplicity. The Efficiency of the use of the biometric system is quite efficient because the
reviewing of the recording results can be done more quickly and automatically, biometric
systems can increase productivity and efficiency as well as reduce job turnaround time in
checking the accuracy of the data with the card owner (Indrayani, 2014).

For a QR code campaign to be successful, the study suggests a company needs to have
clear objectives, know who they are targeting, provide valuable contents, place code at
appropriate locations for ease of scanning, decide on the right time for the campaign and finally
execute it in a creative way to stand out from the crowd. Qianyu (2014) illustrates six
characteristics of QR Code which suit to adopt inbusiness. However, the QR Code is still
updating, therefore, further research possibilities explore the security of using the QR Code
for companies. With more and more world-famous companies starting to use QR Codes, even as
a key element of their campaigns, the global knowledge of Codes will further grow
steadily. Besides, more and more mobile devices such as phones and tablets are capable
of detecting Codes with their cameras, which makes downloading and launching a special
app not necessary anymore and may lead to even greater acceptance and a broader target
group (https://www.qr-code-generator.com/qr-code-marketing/why-should-i-use-qr-codes/).

Practical Uses of QR Codes

Here are some ways for using QR codes that are mostly in practice now, as well as a few that we
will be seeing in the very near future. QR Codes could be used: The back (or front and back) of
your business card, your brochures, and other marketing materials, the sides of trucks and
trailers, product tags and packaging, convention and event nametags, restaurant menus,
event ticket stubs, point-of-sale receipts (Korhan, 2011).

The potential for QR Codes is limitless and the next generation of barcodes will hold even more
information wherein the content will be effectively embedded in the code and an internet
connection will not even be necessary (Korhan, 2011).

QR Code in Education
Singh, 2016 analyzed QR code from the perspective of their significance and uses.
It was recommended to increase awareness about the usefulness of the QR codes, to make
public aware and be

familiar with the QR code. According to (Asare and Asare, 2015) For a QR code
campaign to be

successful, the study suggests a company needs to have clear objectives, know who they are
targeting,

provide valuable contents, place code at appropriate locations for ease of scanning, decide on
the right

time for the campaign and finally execute it in a creative way that anyone could efficiently
adapt the

system. It's been proven that the use of this two-dimensional QR code is one of the best to use
compared

to barcode and RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification). It can also be used in different teaching
strategies

depending on the like of the teachers like games, reading, science, in math and many more.

In the study carried out by Durak et al. (2016) though it is easier to use QR Codes, it is not

possible to use them without technological necessities, so, QR Codes would increase in line
with the

increase in the related technologies like smartphones and tablets. The propagation of the
smartphones and

tablet PCs could soon be the first choice when surfing and scanning quick response
codes with the

support of internet access.

The study of Rizal et al. (2016) concludes that Smart Attendance System Applying QR
Code

enables to speed up the process of taking attendance and would save us valuable teaching time.
He further

stressed that this initiative helps students avoid consequences that may result from poor
attendances that
should be stipulated in the policy and academic regulations of the school.

There are many other ways you can use QR codes in school are becoming a popular tool
in

modern education. (Lamey, 2018 and Santisteban, 2017). Teachers of the 21st century
are generally

enthusiastic to embrace the used of modern technologies, considering a sound

fiscal allocation and

management. Teachers are more likely wanted simplicity and efficiency with combine speed,
ease, and

novelty with the capacity to hold a large amount of data that can actually do a lot to enrich such
classroom

management (Lamey, 2018).

It is in this context, the researcher wanted to conduct the study to enabling awareness of
the

features of the attendance monitoring system using the QR code. It also intended to determine
the level of

acceptability of QR code attendance monitoring system as perceived by particular teachers-user

and the

students of General Emilio Aguinaldo National High School as participants of the study. Thus,
this study

is geared towards evidence-based practice using this type of computer system that
will serve as a

preference towards continuous improvement and work on the recommendation on how

this type of

system can be adapted in the school context.

Research Question

This study aimed to explore the features of the QR Code as an attendance monitoring
system, its

acceptability by the users, and implication to the classroom in checking the attendance of the
students.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the features of the QR code attendance monitoring system?

2. What is the level of acceptability of attendance monitoring system using the QR

code as

perceived by the teachers-user and students?

3. How do the teachers-user and students view QR code as attendance monitoring system?

4. Based on the findings, what recommendation to further adapt the system in the classroom and
