Adidas
History of Adidas
Adidas was founded by Adolf ‘’Adi’’ Dassler in the 1920s in Herzogenaurach,
Bavaria, Germany. He began making shoes in his mother’s laundry room. In
July 1924, his brother, Rudolf, joined the business, starting up Dassler Brothers
Shoe Factory. In the 1936 Olympics, Adi convinced US athlete Jesse Owens to
wear his shoes. Because of Owens’ wins, his shoes began gaining popularity.
Unfortunately, in 1947, Adi and Rudolf’s relationship had broken down, so
Rudolf left the business. Rudolf then founded another shoe brand, Ruda, now
known as Puma.

This led to a fierce rivalry between the two companies, and leading to the
town of Herzogenaurach divided on the issue. Not only that, Puma paid lots of
athletes to wear their footwear. Adi was so enraged he banned one of the
athletes.
The Logo
The first logo for Adidas was invented by Adolf ‘’Adi’’ Dassler and was the
first to use it on shoes in 1949. The name ‘’adidas’’ came from his name.
Dassler created a symbol that could be instantly recognized when athletes
used his shoes in sporting events. He emphasized associations with the slogan
“brand with 3 strips”.
The first logo :

When Adidas expanded into the leisure and apparel markets, its famous the
trefoil logo was developed. The mark was chosen from more than 100 ideas
put forward. While it still included the three stripes, its three-leaf shape is
meant to represent the main landmasses of the Americas, Europe and Africa,
and Asia respectively. The intersecting lines across the three forms signify
diversity.
The second logo :
 With the trefoil a fashion success, a new logo was needed for sporting
products. Originally crafted by creative director Peter Moore in 1990, the
performance logo was initially used on the company's Equipment range of
sporting goods. The three stripes come directly from those seen on early
Adidas sports shoes, but also form the shape of a mountain, which represents
the challenges athletes face.

Collaborations
Adidas has done several collaborations with well known designers, including
Jeremy Scott, Alexander Wang, and Raf Simons. They have also reached out to
several celebrities, such as Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, and Stan Smith to
create some of the company's most notable and coveted pieces.
On 14 February 2015, Kanye West collaborated with Adidas to create the first
pair of Yeezys, eventually leading to his own clothing line which would
transform the lifestyle and streetwear industry.
