Fire Fighting Robot Using Arduino UNO

INTRODUCTION:
In this project, we build a simple robot using
Arduino that could move towards the fire and pump out
water around it to put down the fire. It is a very simple
robot that would teach us the underlying concept of
robotics.

Components Required :
1. Arduino UNO
2. Fire sensor or Flame sensor (3 Nos)
3. L293D motor Driver module
4. Small Breadboard
5. Robot chassis with motors and wheel (any type)
6. A small can
7. Connecting wires

Literature Survey:
Arduino:
The Arduino is merely a set of C/C++ functions that can be
called from your code. The microcontroller used is AT
mega 328. It has 14 digital input/output pins, 6 analog
input, 16MHz crystal oscillator, usb connection, power
jack, an ICSP header and a reset button .

L293D motor driver IC:


A motor driver is an integrated circuit chip which is
usually used to control motors in autonomous robots.
Motor driver acts as an interface between arduino and
motors.
Fire sensor:
These types of sensors are used for short range fire
detection and can be use to monitor projects or as a
safety precaution to cut devices off/on.
The sensor basically detects IR light that is emitted from
fire flame.

Working Concept of Fire Fighting Robot:


The main brain of this project is the Arduino, but in-order
to sense fire we use the Fire sensor module (flame
sensor) that is shown below.

As you can see these sensors have an IR Receiver


(Photodiode) which is used to detect the fire. When fire
burns it emits a small amount of Infra-red light, this light
will be received by the IR receiver on the sensor module.
So that if a fire is detected the output pin (DO) will give
0V(LOW) and if the is no fire the output pin will be
5V(HIGH).
So, we place three such sensors in three directions of the
robot to sense on which direction the fire is burning.
We detect the direction of the fire we can use the motors
to move near the fire by driving our motors through
the L293D module. When near a fire we have to put it
out using water. Using a small container we can carry
water, a 5V pump is also placed in the container.

APPLICATION:
 Can be used in server rooms.
 To extinguishes fire where probability of fire is high.
 Usable in power plant control rooms, fire control
centres.
 Disaster area monitoring and rescue.
CONCLUSION:
In this project we aim to reduce effect of fire accidents which
usually start from small flame .
The robot can successfully detects and follows the flame and
extinguishes fire by spraying water on the flame.
