Week 1 This week was spent on idea generation

decided to make? How do they

At the start of the week we were asked to complete 6
different ideas, three for a radio show and three for
online piece of work. We also had to research our
target audience to find out what they are interested
in and what appeals to them. We came up with all 6
ideas then we were asked to gather research from
our target audience (16-22) on what they would
prefer listening too or reading. After finding the
chosen one we then wrote up the idea into further
detail with a rationale alongside.
We were given this target audience specifically 16-22.
The first production we have decided to make is a
Radio Show specifically podcast we knew that we
had to use a topic that interested our target
audience so for the podcast we chose to do it on
mental health and the effect that physical exercise
can have. This will relate to our target audience
because mental health is a massive topic within 16-22-
year olds and a lot of people this age are also
involved in physical exercise. We haven’t produced
many radio productions so we thought that this would
be a fantastic way to showcase are current skills and
have a chance to develop our skills as well. The other
production that we are making is an online blog, we
chose to use the topic of social media and the effects
it can have on us mentally. We thought this would be
a sensible idea as our target audience is extremely
suited to social media as everyone uses it. We chose
to do an online blog because we can improve out
interview skills and develop our editing skills. Also we
will be able to showcase our writing skills for the online
piece.

Our focus group that we recorded was very useful.
We were able to find out that people were very
interested in our ideas and were also able to gain
helpful feedback that would improve our ideas even
further. We were able to gain information on what
people are interested in so that the opinions and
views that we received were reliable and un biased.

This week was spent researching target audiences
We were able to find out some very useful information
from our target audience through our secondary
research:
- They use social media on their main form of
contact and communication
- Smartphones are their main choice of
electronical device
- Instagram is the most popular social media
platform among this age group.
This will help us massively with our productions
because we now know where to advertise and know
where to upload them for people to see.
Interviewing people from our target audience was
very useful because we were able to gain views and
opinions from people who are our target audience.
We were also able to find out a lot about how we are
able to gain as many people interested as possible
and reach as many people as we can from the target
audience.
Yes, we found it difficult to get a large response to our
survey however is you can reach the most amount of
people possible by sharing the survey on all social
media platforms to gain the most answers. This will
reach more people and then we can ask them to
share it as well.
We need to give our audience an interesting
production that engages the target audience. In
order to achieve this, we have to make our piece
informative and engaging. We have to do this from
start to finish. This generation has the average
attention span of seven seconds.

Therefore, we need to make sure that every second
of our piece contains quality content that engages
everyone. This is more difficult that the target
audience we normally choose. When we focus on
adults, for example, they tend to have a larger
attention span and also enjoy watching long
interviews and can focus for a lengthy period of time.

This week was spent researching codes and
conventions
We have been asked to make sure that the topics we
chose are hard hitting and investigative therefore the
genre will be serious and factual trying to make the
productions engaging
This week we have been researching the codes and
conventions for our productions and I have been able
to learn a lot by listening other people’s podcasts and
radio programmes to help develop my skills and also
know how people in the industry go about reaching
their audience and producing a high quality
professional piece.
This will influence our productions massively as we
have been able to learn the codes and conventions
for our productions therefore, we can now implement
them into our own productions when it comes to that
stage of the unit.
- Creating the write mood
For our podcast we would like to create a serious but
also conversional atmosphere so that a listener can
easily feel a part of the show and engage well.

This week was spent researching codes and
conventions
For my primary research I completed a focus group
where I was able to find out that most of my audience
are very interested in both of our productions are
would be interested in investing their own time into
listening and watching our pieces.
Some developments that I need to make to my
production for it meet the codes and conventions
requirements is that I need to make sure that
everything that we are talking about in the podcast is
informative and useful to the listeners and that goes
the same for my online blog.
Processing the results from my research into
infographics and graphs made it a lot easier to have
organised and easy to understand I one place where
I can see all the results. Also it helps keep all the
relevant information in one place and easy to
understand.

This week was spent planning your productions
From the planning is was able to learn some different
methods and techniques which will help me stay
organised throughout the production stage making
everything go smoothly not having to rush and panic
which can decrease the quality of work that I
produce.
Being organised throughout the production process is
of huge importance to me because if you are not
organised then it is very likely that you will not
produce something to the best of your ability
because you can be put in positions where you need
to rush things so that you meet your deadlines.
During the planning stage we didn’t encounter many
issues however there was one issue that was quite
frustrating as it prevented us from moving on at times
this was not being able to find someone who finds it
comfortable to talk about their mental health in a
podcast.

This week was spent filming
The filming process went very well. We managed to
film the interview in one take which was fantastic to
achieve and after watching it back we were very
pleased with the outcome.
No, we didn’t encounter any problems during the
filming stage of the production.
We do not need to shoot any of the filming however
we might rerecord the jingle for our podcast as I am
not very happy with the way it sounds.
Techniques that we used from previous units for
interviewing is the rule of thirds making sure that we
used it properly and to a professional standard and
we also used the 180-degree rule whilst filming the
interview for the online blog.
Yes, the location used for the interview was extremely
suitable to the production and the atmosphere that
we were trying to create. We filmed the interview in a
living room with family framed photos in the
background we chose this location as we wanted to
create a very personal atmosphere.

I found that the filming process went very smoothly
this week when we filmed our interview with Charlie
Swadling. After doing the interview we watched back
the interview making sure everything was professional
looking and suited the mood we were trying to create

we felt it was the best place to create the right mood

When filming we didn’t encounter any issues, after
doing the interview we watched it whilst we were still
there and made sure that everything was in check

productions have come out very nicely and I am
pleased with how they have finished.
My productions met the target audience very well
due to the preparations that I put in place before
hand with the primary research that I was able to do
with focus groups and find out people between the
ages of 16-22 are interested in.
I am pleased with all aspects with the productions
and I feel that they target my audience very well.
I feel we managed to follow the codes and
conventions of a podcast very well, one of the
reasons for this is because of the amount of research
that we were able to find on the codes and
conventions of podcast making and producing.

professional productions because we were able to
complete in depth research which helped us with
being able to produce this production to a
