Initially I focused on more how people would react to understand the steps would work or it

needs to be changed. These are multiple choice. I thought it would best to ask mcqs as it takes
less time.
If someone you knew talked about their own mental health problems to you, what would you do?
 Listen and talk things through with them
 Try to put it off and avoid them
 Explain that you don’t feel comfortable talking about these issues
 Wouldn’t want to talk but advise them to make use of the support facilities within the
campus

Have you ever felt unusually stressed out while at university? (Yes/No)

If yes, what was the cause of the increased pressure?

 Financial worries/ student loans
 Course work
 Personal problems on top of university work
 Worrying about finding a job after university

If you ever did feel stressed at university, would you speak to someone about it? (Yes/No)

 If yes, who would you speak to? (Professors / Student support services / Friends /
Supervisor / Anyone)

 How likely are you to attend future events of ‘Hey, You Okay?’ campaign? (Very Likely
to Not Likely at all)
 How likely your friends/colleague would learn about the campaign through you? (Very
Likely to Not Likely at all)

Results/Discussion
How did they hear

 50 % Social Media: Facebook, Instagram, Youtube - heard from huskies connect, UPB
event
 20 % Word-of-mouth
 SCSU website, posters, email – heard from childcare center

4.
70% Good message and easy to understand. would prefer a little bit more explanation
‘From the video I understand it I s about opening up and talk about the problem and asking others
if they are going through something.’

Not much explanation. not clear, message vague. No introduction about the campaign in the video.
Didn’t mention purpose of the event. 2. The video didn’t portray enough information to reflect any
thoughts. 3. More message to incorporate thoughts and personal thoughts of students in the video,
it just talks about the 4 steps.

Good steps to start a conversation. It’s useful to start conversation like it. It was helpful.
Educational on the elements of the campaign. Short and to the point. Short and to the point. Good
initiative to start a conversation about mental health and students well being

One comment faculty of graphic design - Title is good. Icons could be better, looks like its for
immature audience. It could be more serious in a friendly way. Like to hear from a student.

From the video I understand its about opening up and talk about the problem and asking others if
they are going through something.
It helps people know they have someone who cares for them.

Good message and easy to understand. But explain a little bit more. Good video. Would rather
have it explained.
Good message, foster friendship in the community.

Questions- how do you lend a hand, how to properly confront- is hey you okay the right way- it
might remind them of their issues and make them feel bad. How to identify the signs? How to
make them feel valued and value their life.

Promising but don’t understand how this program reaches out to those who don’t want to speak
out,

5. The 4 steps, do you think they are named appropriately?

 80% think the 4 steps are named appropriately

 Be there doesn’t sound good- add something like ‘make sure to listen’
 10%. ‘how are you’ should be used instead of Hey you okay. They might get the impression
that something might wrong with them if someone asks hey you okay
 10% Not sure what lending a hand means
 Be there doesn’t sound good- add something like ‘make sure to listen’
 Conversation should have ways to directly prevent suicide.
 Doesn’t education people about what they should do
 Add alternative steps after hey you okay if they don’t want to talk about it.

6. Are there other things you think this campaign should address?

 How to approach people in different ways tough situation

 45% No
 10% suggested to address cultural shock, depression, the effects of drugs and alcohol and
suicide prevention
 People from different countries
 How to respond and deal with them not being disrespectful
 Address how to keep the conversion up if they reply with they are fine.
 How to approach people in different ways, as the 4 steps might not work for everybody.
 Serious of mental health
 Address how to reach someone who doesn’t socialize and don’t want to speak out
 How to know who to ask, address some sign of depression and ways to deal with it
 Hey you okay should be used as how are you and not imply something like something is
wrong with that person

7. Were there things in the message that were difficult to understand, and should be explained
differently?
 65% - the message was very clear and straight-forward
 Not sure what’s the focus and purpose of the campaign the video
 Visual – why red and black only
 Go more in-depth, share experience if someone went through issues and how they
overcome it and ask if talking to people helped them
 Not sure what’s the focus? Day to day mental issue or specific mental problem. How having
a conversation would solve anything?
 14 No- not complex, clear, straight forward, another comment - easy to understand, not
convincing
 Not difficult, show some examples
 Yes- no one is going to tell anybody about their problem
8. What prevents you from checking in with your friends if you are concerned about them?

 Not knowing how to deal with them

 Privacy between faculty and student
 35% check in with their friends Nothing - if I think they are comfortable
 Being busy with work family school
 Not knowing enough about mental health
 4 People don’t show and share. Don’t want to talk. Saying there fine
 They might get hurt – interpreted differently
 3 Might feel bothered-
 2 overstepping – intruding personal space- not knowing if they want space
 Feeling like pressuring them to talk as they might uncomfortable to talk

Limitation-

 Time consuming (Open ended – had to watch a video -not multiple choice- take more time)
 The survey was conducted at the end of the semester
 Saying yes or no is the easy way out even if they have different answers
 Not enough promotional activities – just for the fund page they made the video

Recommendation

 Take suggestions from the survey result and implement it in their campaign
 Video with better visual and explanation icons not good- for immature audience. More
serious in a friendly way – maybe change the black and red color, lets people talk and share
their experience in their videos
 More promotional Activities
