ZXWR RNC (V3.12) Commissioning Guide
IR Incremental Redundancy
RB Radio Bearer
RT Real Time
UE User Equipment
When the mixed networking method is used at the Iub interface, the non-real-time PS
service usually runs on the IP bearer of RNC or NodeB; and the real-time service,
signaling, and OMCB data stream run on the ATM or IPoverE1 bearer.
2. Integrate the control plane and the user plane in the bottom-to-top order on the
protocol stack.
ZXWR RNC (V3.12) Commissioning Guide
For example: In the RNC integration of China Unicom (Yanji) in Jilin province, the SPC
of Ericsson’s MGW is 3-2052 (14 bit), which means SSF=3, SPC=2052, and the SPC
mode is 24 bit.
1. SSF has 2 bits, and its value range is 0-3. The meaning of each value is shown in
Table Introduction to RNC System Integration-2Error: Reference source not found.
Table Introduction to RNC System Integration-2 The Meaning of Each SSF Value
From the above table, if SSF=3, it means the SPC is reserved for national use.
(47)
(b) IC format
(45)
(c) E.164 format
ZTE’s OMMR supports E164 and NSAP formats, and NASP is the default.
For example:
If the RNC ATM address provided by the operator is in E164 format: 070320000000000,
we need to convert it to the NSAP format.
For the E614 format, AFI=45, which is a hexadecimal number. Put it before
070320000000000, we can get 45070320000000000. Divide it at two-digit interval from
left to right. If the last segment has only one digit, put an F at the end, for example
45.07.03.20.00.00.00.00.0F. Finally, convert each two-digit segment into a decimal
ZXWR RNC (V3.12) Commissioning Guide
The bandwidth unit used at the CN side is “cps”, while ZTE uses “kpbs” in data
configuration at the RNC side. The ATM cell has 53 bytes, therefore 1 cps = 1*53*8 bps
= 424 bps = 0.424 kbps.

Follow the bottom-to-top order on the protocol stack to integrate the physical layer (E1),
IMA layer, ATM layer and NBAP layer in turn.
2. Check E1 L1-L32 on the DTB panel. If the E1 LED indicators are flashing slowly at
1 HZ, all the E1 links are normal.
3. Check the status of all the E1 links at the NodeB side, and make sure these E1
links have been added to the corresponding IMA group in the configuration at the
NodeB side and the Status is Normal.
It is required that the state of all E1 links under one IMA group should be normal.
ZXWR RNC (V3.12) Commissioning Guide
2. Query the IMA group status in RNC. The query method is: in the Status
Management interface, click SubNetwork > Transmission Resource > IMA
group. Right-click an IMA group and choose Query IMA group state. In the
normal state, the status of both the Near-end IMA group state and Far-end IMA
group state should be Running. If not, we need to check the integration
parameters of the two IMA groups. For example, check whether the configurations
of scrambling and descrambling for the two IMA groups are consistent.
choose Query PVC State. In the normal state, The status of PVC should be
Normal.
2. Query the AAL2 status in the RNC. Click Status Management > SubNetwork >
Transmission Resource > AAL2PathTP; right-click an AAL2PathTP and choose
Query Path Status. In the normal state, Path Status should be PvcUnblock.
ZXWR RNC (V3.12) Commissioning Guide
1. Query NCP and CCP status of the corresponding NodeB in the RNC by clicking
Status Management > SubNetwork > UMTS Radio Resource > IubPort (UMTS).
Right-click an item and choose Query Status of Port. In the normal state, the Port
Status of NCP and CCP should be Available.
2. Check the status of cells under the corresponding NodeB in the RNC by clicking
Status Management > SubNetwork> UMTS Radio Resource > Cell (UMTS).
Right-click a cell and choose Query Status of Cell. In the normal state, the
Administrative Status is Unblock, the Exist Status is Existence, and the
Available Status is Normal.
3. Check the status of channels in the RNC by clicking Status Management >
SubNetwork > UMTS Radio Resource > Channel (UMTS). Right-click an item on
the right and choose Query Channel Status. In the normal state, the Operation
Status should be Enabled, the Exist Status should be Existence, and the
Available Status should be Normal. In the normal state, the number of BCH,
PCH, and RACH should be 1, and the number of FACH should be at least 1. Keep
querying the status by refreshing. They are required to remain in existence.
4. Turn on the testing UE and register on the network, there should be messages of
rrcConnectionSetupComplete and initialdirectransfer having been sent from the
UE to the RNC.
5. When the above steps are finished, it indicates the integration of the Iub interface is
completed.
The major difference between ATM over STM-1 and ATM over E1 lies in the
transmission bearer mode. As to integration, they mainly differ from each other in the
transmission bearer mode, while the integrations of the other protocol layers for them
are the same. The basic integration parameters are as shown in the table below.

Follow the bottom-to-top order on the protocol stack to integrate the physical layer, IMA
layer, ATM layer, and NABP layer in turn.
1. Check the state of APBE subunit, and the subunit state of the corresponding APBE
board at the RNC side. For APBE/2, there is only one subunit; for APBE, there are
four subunits. To query the state, click Status Management > SubNetwork >
Physical Resource > STM-1Physical Port, select an ATM port (according to the
Sub-system No., Unit No., and Port), and right-click the port to choose Query Fiber
Port Status. In the normal state, the Query Result should be “Operation
succeeds! Port Status: on”.
ZXWR RNC (V3.12) Commissioning Guide
2. Check the LED indicators of the APBE board. In the normal state, the ACT LED
indicator should be constantly on. ACT1-4 and SD1-4 correspond to optical
interface1-4 respectively. If the ACT1 LED indicator is constantly on, it indicates
that the current optical interface is active; if the SD1 LED indicator is constantly on,
it indicates that the current optical interface can receive optical signal.

Follow the bottom-to-top order on the protocol stack to integrate the physical layer, IMA
layer, ATM layer, MTP3B layer, SCCP layer, and RANAP layer in turn.
Refer to Chapter3.1.6 ATM Layer for the method of ATM layer integration.
Refer to Chapter3.1.7 MTP3B Layer for the method of MTP3B layer integration.
1. For the SCCP layer, perform an inter-Iur interface soft handover. When the
message of radio link addition request is detected at the Iur interface, trace the
SCCP layer. There should be CR and CC messages and no alarm about the
subsystem 1 or 143.
2. After the above steps are finished, the integration of the Iur interface is completed.
5.2 IP Mode
Follow the bottom-to-top order on the protocol stack to integrate the physical layer, IP
layer, SCTP layer, M3UA layer, SCCP layer, and RANAP layer in turn.
Refer to Chapter4.2.3 Physical Layer for the method of physical layer integration.
5.2.4 IP Layer
Refer to Chapter4.2.7 SCCP Layer and RANAP Layer for the method of SCTP layer
integration.
Refer to Chapter3.2.6 M3UA Layer for the method of M3UA layer integration.
Refer to Chapter3.1.8 SCCP Layer and RANAP Layer for the method of SCCP layer &
RASAP layer integration.
