Chapter 2-Axial Problem: Exercise 2.

2
Compound structure is shown in Figure 2.7. An axial load is of 1000N applied at point F
with the direction as shown in the figure. It is intended to investigate the displacement
at points A, B, C, D, E and F. Despite the displacements the information of axial stress in
every segment is also required. The length of every segment, the cross section and the
modulus of elasticity is shown in the figure.

• Go to Nodes tab , Choose Add Single.
There are many ways to draw elements from nodes. As an example nodes at
A, C, E and F are firstly defined using Add Single menu accessed from the
menu Nodes.

Chapter 2-Axial Problem: Exercise 2.2
Go to menu Elements > Add Single, then select Line 2 , define elements by connecting points A
and C, C and E, C and E, then E and F. Please note that there are two elements connecting point C
and point E, therefore you have to define it twice. When you define an element, don’t forget to
select the proper material in theMaterial entry field. Click Show Element Numbers On/Off symbol.

Refining the element connecting point A and C, also one of element
connecting C and E will get all examination nodes as shown in Figure 2.7. To
refine an element, go to menu Elements > Refine.

Chapter 2-Axial Problem: Exercise 2.2
Node 1 is restrained which is not allowed to move. Since this is axial problem,
restraining in x and y translations should be sufficient to define the fixed
condition. Pick the node to be restrained, i.e. node 1, then go to menu
Constraints . Add/Edit and a Node Properties dialog appears (next page)
