Research on anxiety disorders depression

1. What are anxiety disorders/depression?


- Anxiety disorders are the most common of mental disorders and affect more than 25
million.

2. Who gets anxiety disorders/depression and how common are they


- it’s not uncommon for someone with an anxiety disorder to also suffer from
depression or vice versa.

3. Describe some of the symptoms of anxiety disorders/depression?


- some symptoms of depression and anxiety overlap, such as problems with sleep.
Irritability, and difficulty concentrating. But there are several key differences that
help distinguish between the two.

4. List and briefly explain some of the main types of anxiety disorders/depression?
- Generalized anxiety Disorder
Is anxiety disorder characterized by chronic anxiety, exaggerated worry and tension,
even when there is little or nothing to provoke it.

-Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder


Is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts
(obsessions) and/ or repetitive behavior ( compulsions).
-Panic Disorder
Is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by unexpected and repeated episodes of
intense fear accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain, heart,
palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or abdominal distress.
-Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder
Is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in
which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened.
-Social Phobia( or social anxiety Disorder)
Is an anxiety disorder characterized by overwhelming anxiety and excessive self-
consciousness in everyday social situations.
5. What type of treatment is available for people experiencing anxiety
disorders/depression?

-make them feel someone love them and someone care for them. Tell her/him she/he
is beautiful/handsome and smart. Make her/him happy and love her your heart and
brain.
6. What other kinds of support can help a person with anxiety disorders/depression?

- According to Serani, the best thing you can do for someone with depression is
to be there. “When I was struggling with my own depression, the most healing
moments came when someone I loved simply sat with me while I cried, or
wordlessly held my hand, or spoke warmly to me with statements like ‘You’re so
important to me.’ ‘Tell me what I can do to help you.’ ‘We’re going to find a way to
help you to feel better.’”
